You can always count on Cornyn.
To defect on major issues when it matters.
If you've been around a while, the thing about Cornyn is it's the same damn phenomenon every cycle.
1) Cornyn defects on some important issue.
2) A bunch of us say he needs to be primaried for it.
3) The defenders crawl out and say we're being shortsighted, he's otherwise a good Republican and it's naive to weaken our own R senator over the current issue. We can't risk that seat going Dem next election, everyone needs to fall into line, etc. etc.
4) GOTO LINE 1
Line 3 argument would make sense if it actually WERE just this one time on this one issue. But Cornyn has been doing it literally his entire career.
For example, we could have had a Trump-style revolution of working-class Republicanism and avoided eventual Obamacare 15 years ago, but right when cross-party populism was coalescing, Cornyn and other defectors chopped the Tea Party and Ron Paul off at the knees and supported billions in debt spending transferred from working people to the bankers. Never mind that the banker class always ends up doing just fine because they have Assets and Financial Instruments and Hedges and all kinds of Accounting Voodoo Economics. Meanwhile the working class - who have few assets and live on cashmoney - endures another decade of regressive currency devaluation, which means their dollars stretch thinner and thinner every generation and they have less and less ability to obtain actual Assets, while Crony Cornyn and his buddies live untouchable lives suckling on those swollen thick federal tax teats. And then 10 years later there's yet another "too big to fail" recession/meltdown
He does it again and again/ Cornyn never lets a Senate session go by without finding some major conservative cause or principle to work against.
No thanks. F that guy. Again.
