Texas A&M continues woke push as it becomes the newest tradition
ByAndre Perrard
Oct 21, 2024

"Once again, as many of the ones written before, this article is written by a lifelong Aggies, who graduated from the school. The once-Conservative Texas A&M has sloped so far to the left in recent years, it has become unrecognizable. They continue pushing new DEI hires, pushing DEI classes despite state law prohibiting them from doing so, and seem to have no sense in reading the room of alumni, who are pleading that the school stop the nonsense."

Conservative activist Christian Collins says this has become yet another stamp of shame for the school.

"For all the parents that are going to spend their money...they should think twice," he says. "Because if you want your kid to become a Marxist...then send them to Texas A&M."

Collins says the only way to battle the issue is for parents to 'vote with their dollars,' and reconsider their kids college choices.

That is a very strong take. I just don't see it. A&M is still one of the most conservative schools in the USA.

Which means it could still be a Marxist oasis. The higher education system is a woke joke.

I have two current student daughters at A&M. Their take is that you can find Marxists on campus, but the are outnumbered like 10 to 1. Most professors soft peddle leftist crap, but they were doing that when I was there. Out of the 8 semesters I have paid for, my girls have run into 3 devout Marxists, and 2 gung ho capitalists.

All of their friends have trucks or boyfriends that drive trucks. My oldest says her favorite date is bass fishing, and she gets invited a couple times a semester.

It's not as conservative as it once was, but it ain't Fn tu.

A&M very badly wants to be a woke liberal POS school. They are doing everything they can to make it happen. I don't see where you're finding any hope. Any bit of Conservatism A&M has will obviously be snuffed out

It's on its way to being another woke Texas. Your take is yeah, it pancreatic cancer but it is only at stage 1 right now. This marxist caner doesn't stop or stand still. This cancer is either cut out or it will continue to metastasize till A&M is dead.
Of course A&M will be there in 50 years physically, but if it is a 100% a communist education center pushes for the destruction of America and putting White Europeans into camps. Is there still a Texas A&M ????
My school is too far gone, yours is not. You can still save it or let it die. Think about this. I'm a sip but I don't want A&M to die. Hell, the traditional values it has had in the past. I want those protected and fought for because they represents my values more than any other school in the state.

Part of the challenge with universities is the industry feedback loop. If a school SEEKS to protect conservative values (and our "leadership" clearly cares about $ far more than culture, marketability, or stewardship) the hiring pool potential is vanishingly small. You basically need to home-grow, which sets you at a disadvantage to collaborative innovator institutions.

This conservative Christian activist is really damaging his credibility. It's okay to complain about A&M offering a gender studies class, which is absurd on its face, but to assert that this one class is turning everyone into Marxists is of course absurd. I know because my three boys and their wives, classes from 14 - 20, are all more conservative than me, which I didn't think was even possible because I'm a hateful right-wing extremist. I personally hate to see classes like this offered because the few people who take them will cost me tax dollars because they will either be unemployed or will become professional grifters like all the other woke.

I don't buy it either. If I was worried about my child attending a university plagued by Marxism, A&M would be on a very short list of schools to consider

Some of these posts are so far from reality. If your kid becomes a marxist it's either because they are extremely stupid or they were raised by idiots. Most liberal kids show up liberal and most conservative kids show up conservative. Most of my friends somehow got even more conservative through college.

I think it is, based on the actual student body breakdown...but I am not sure in terms of the academic aspect anymore. I would need more info, but I hear the horror stories about flaming liberal profs trying their damndest to indoctrinate young impressionable students.

It's the more disadvantaged kids that these courses and professors are more likely to ideologically capture. Especially kids coming from a home with no father present. I don't disagree with you, outside of maybe a few rare exceptions, my only point is that they do it because they know it works to convert many types of kids.

But yeah, I very rarely see kids from good strong conservative families flip to the dark side.

It's very much a danger and there are elements that are very concerning but there has been real pushback in the last couple of years.

The Sul Ross thing was a pinnacle event and getting rid of that idiot President who was all about the Woke was a good sign. The recent blowback that resulted in Michaelis and likely Ramirez getting fired are a good sign. Getting rid of the DEI stuff was good as well as some of the super woke majors.

Lots more to do though. You are never going to get a majority conservative prof cadre, there just aren't enough out there and especially in Liberal Arts. You can push away the worst of the bunch though and some of that has happened. You can also make it so that any infringement or intimidation of conservative thought is pushed back on hard. If your expectation though is that A&M is going to be an 80,000 student public Hillsdale College though that's not realistic.

The biggest issues to me are in admissions and financial aid. A&M is more Woke than California there, just completely off the charts. The Top 10% rule is ridiculous and rewarding 1st Gen but having no benefit for Alumni is insane. You are actually penalized for doing well and preparing your kid to succeed at A&M. We are way too far on the high cost structure for a school with our resources, our sticker price is ridiculous and we offer tiny amounts of merit aid unless you are National Merit (which is an idiotic metric to use as the end all, be all and hurts us in multiple ways). Then at the same time we offer free tuition based on income, something only liberal private schools do. We do a horrible job of recruiting top students in Texas because we just assume they will come and we offer then no incentives to do so. We also have a horribly structured ETAM system which requires a 3.75 to get into your Engineering Major of choice, literally no other school does that in the country. If they have something it is more like 3.0. This chases away so many good students. We are also the highest ranked school by a mile in the country that does Rolling Admissions.

The net result of the admissions and financial aid policies is it pushes away a lot of white kids from Suburban areas and that is the goal. Instead they are going to other SEC schools who are glad to offer them cheaper rates and recruit the hell out of them. In the meantime A&M recruits the Valley and other poor school districts and offers basically free tuition to those kids, many of which flunk out.

All we have to do is follow the same model North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida have as they are all similar. Holistic admissions with set amounts of in state students and giving a boost to rural students. Then making tuition either very low and/or giving LOTS of paths for merit scholarships for most above average students much less elite students who almost always go full ride or close to it in state.

While there has been some improvement on this front over the last couple years, much of the DEI/CRT infiltration has either gone "underground," so to speak, or was already thoroughly embedded institutionally. If the state of Texas is genuinely interested in exorcising the cancer of DEI/CRT here are two things I think need to be done.

1) The state of Texas should appoint a panel comprised of conservative academics and other leading critics of DEI/CRT in higher education to conduct a comprehensive audit of every single academic and non-academic division or program within the university for evidence of stealthily embedded DEI/CRT. Once the audit is complete the state - through a combination of legislative and executive action - would have to finish off the job of killing the remaining vestiges of DEI/CRT, as the universities themselves have proven woefully uncapable and unwilling to eliminate it on their own.

2) The state of Texas should take the lead in eliminating all of the fake academic disciplines, programs of study, majors, minors, and individual classes, whose academic pedagogy is rooted in critical theory. The programs to be eliminated would start with, but certainly not be limited to, things like Women's and Gender Studies, and University Studies - Race, Gender, and Ethnicity.

Nothing. My support for the whole mess ended with the BLM bull. If it were up to me, it could all go back to teams being made up from the existing student body.
