Not only is this not true, this is even less true than it was a couple of years ago, thanks to a pushback from both Aggie Former student groups and Texas Republican politicians.

And thanks to the last few years of Board of Regents who are conservative

Think this is just another thing people are actively wanting to get upset over. Graduated 3 years ago and it was completely fine. Actively trying to find the extremes on either side will make people upset. Don't buy into the narrative

My daughter applied to A&M. She was not an auto-admit and didn't even submit SAT or ACT scores.

However, she wrote the most impressive essay I've ever read. She formed a pro-life student group at her high school and wrote about it. She wrote about being raised with 4 brothers and 1 sister, and how blessed she was to be raised in a large loving family. She wrote about sacrifice and hard work. I get choked up just thinking about it.

She received her acceptance letter last week.

Some troglodytes in this thread. Our school is so massive. It's not a conservative private school. It is a state school. There should be people there with opinions on both sides of the aisle.

Most professors soft peddle leftist crap, but they were doing that when I was there. Out of the 8 semesters I have paid for, my girls have run into 3 devout Marxists, and 2 gung ho capitalists.

All of their friends have trucks or boyfriends that drive trucks. My oldest says her favorite date is bass fishing, and she gets invited a couple times a semester.

While I believe this is true I've known several students who where Christian conservatives going in, and got brainwashed at A&M, and left transgender and socialist.

That is sad to me. I have had personal experience trying to minister to minor kids that want to both transition and be evangelical Christians at the same time. It's heartbreaking.

Probably lots of ins and out for your friends situations that are not discussed here. Lots of ins and outs for my daughters situations that are not discussed here. Sorry to be blunt, but, is the University really to blame?

I have a daughter and son at A&M, and can confirm.
A&M is overwhelmingly conservative, and has some fantastic Christian orgs. My kids have grown tremendously in their faith, and are getting an excellent education.

They are both engineers, so can't speak for other schools. They have a lot of friends in other majors though, and there is a large swath of conservative, Christian kids across the board.

Totally unrelated, but my sons Jesus Loves You sign made Gameday last year, which I thought was awesome.

Congratulations to all of you, raised her well. Love the story!
I hope she decides to go there, we need more like her, to fight the good fight!

My kids have blossomed at A&M, their faith is unwavering, and inspiring, and it has largely to do with the Christian orgs they were part of at school.

Was it during COVID? It's been a fad pushed by the media. I believe you, but I think external pressures are extremely influential.

I have two other sons there who are very involved with St Mary's, both fiercely conservative. It's all who you choose to be around.

A&M very badly wants to be a woke liberal POS school. They are doing everything they can to make it happen. I don't see where you're finding any hope. Any bit of Conservatism A&M has will obviously be snuffed out
As TAMU increases its liberal arts presence you will see more "liberals" teaching. This does not mean the entire University as gone "woke".

FYI : If you have raised your children correctly then the chances they go "Marxist" are slim.

The biggest issues to me are in admissions and financial aid. A&M is more Woke than California there, just completely off the charts. The Top 10% rule is ridiculous and rewarding 1st Gen but having no benefit for Alumni is insane. You are actually penalized for doing well and preparing your kid to succeed at A&M. We are way too far on the high cost structure for a school with our resources, our sticker price is ridiculous and we offer tiny amounts of merit aid unless you are National Merit (which is an idiotic metric to use as the end all, be all and hurts us in multiple ways). Then at the same time we offer free tuition based on income, something only liberal private schools do. We do a horrible job of recruiting top students in Texas because we just assume they will come and we offer then no incentives to do so. We also have a horribly structured ETAM system which requires a 3.75 to get into your Engineering Major of choice, literally no other school does that in the country. If they have something it is more like 3.0. This chases away so many good students. We are also the highest ranked school by a mile in the country that does Rolling Admissions.

The net result of the admissions and financial aid policies is it pushes away a lot of white kids from Suburban areas and that is the goal.
Absolutely spot on.

And to add to that ...

If you are a legacy, the university knows without a doubt that your folks:

1) Have the means
2) Have the will

To pay full freight. So if you are lucky enough to get admitted, you get nothing.

My elder daughter went WAYYYY leftie at A&M, married a wack-a-doo sadly.

My younger son went wayyy right at A&M.

Heck my economic prof back in the 90s was Reicht who is super lefty.

So A&M can be whatever your young adult is seeking.

Pre Covid. And for those who are rightly pointing out the university is not entirely to blame, the internet played a big role as well.

These kids were sheltered. Brought up right, and good kids, but they were a bit odd. They just weren't exposed to these liberal ideas until college, and then it crept in. At first they were fine, but they were nerdy, and not very popular, and the weirdo freaks were more excepting than your typical A&M student. That's how they were won over in my judgment.

Texas A&M continues woke push as it becomes the newest tradition
ByAndre Perrard
Oct 21, 2024

"Once again, as many of the ones written before, this article is written by a lifelong Aggies, who graduated from the school. The once-Conservative Texas A&M has sloped so far to the left in recent years, it has become unrecognizable. They continue pushing new DEI hires, pushing DEI classes despite state law prohibiting them from doing so, and seem to have no sense in reading the room of alumni, who are pleading that the school stop the nonsense."

Conservative activist Christian Collins says this has become yet another stamp of shame for the school.

"For all the parents that are going to spend their money...they should think twice," he says. "Because if you want your kid to become a Marxist...then send them to Texas A&M."

Collins says the only way to battle the issue is for parents to 'vote with their dollars,' and reconsider their kids college choices.

That is a very strong take. I just don't see it. A&M is still one of the most conservative schools in the USA.
Voting with your wallet is useless. The number of applicants is so high they can easily move to the next candidate. There's also no alternative university that's more conservative. Your best bet is to hope enough good kids with good values go there and change the culture rather than the other way around. This is entirely possible because the new counter culture on campus is being conservative and teenagers and young adults love to give the bird to the mainstream.
