You guys got it. It is just 'helicopter' parents who are never happy....

So when your 18 year old kid gets notified the day before Good Friday that they are being brought up on Hazing charges, they cannot have a lawyer present, No US legal protections apply because this is not a legal process, you have to 4 hours to come to the department of student affairs and review the case against you (cause they are closed half-day due it being Good Friday), and then when they inquire about the charges that they have not even been QUESTIONED about, they are told 'You are already GUILTY, the process is to determine your punishment.'

The accuser can spend days crafting their accusations with the help of adults working at the Trigon, who carefully crafted every detail, while the cadet can only go review the evidence at the Dept Of Student Affairs. They cannot make photocopies of charges, cannot take a cell phone in the room, cannot take pictures of the accusation, can only take in a notepad and pen and no you cannot make an appointment. If they have a room available, you can look at the evidence. If not, you have to wait, but they close at 5, unless it is Good Friday when they close at noon.

Sorry, that your were completely blindsided and notified Thursday afternoon as you are heading home for Easter, and your hearing is scheduled for 8 AM Tuesday morning after Easter, not our problem.

You have about two days notice between when you find out you have been accused and when the hearing happens. You can have a parent present, they can NOT speak. You can have a witness. You cannot have a lawyer present.

Trials in 3rd world countries may actually be more fair...

I guess y'all would say...

'The Corps is a learning experience, I am going to sit back and watch to see what happens...."

Y'all are so much better parents than the people who went through this...

Hopefully it happens to your kids or grandkids so you can show them how to do it properly....

Horrible situation, sorry y'all went through that. I know of two other very similar situations.
As bad as those are, they are the exception rather than the rules of the majority things I have heard about.

I'm not sure when helicopter parents came into vogue. One of the things about college and the Corp is personal growth, learning about making decisions, mistakes, etc.

I would say when social media became available. There were always that one kids parents but it was nothing like today.
My oldest son, class of '11 had limited access and parents really didn't have any. Facebook was new and only available to college kids in the beginning of his 4 years. When my youngest son, class of '19 started, parents had every platform and tracking on their kids phones. I am proud to say, I never tracked my boys. More for my sanity, than theirs.

My boys were also in the Corps. I much preferred my class of '11 time under Van Alstyne than my youngest under Ramirez.
Probably had something to do with false hazing charges and the dick of a CTO over his outfit.

Edited for spelling.

You mean the half the Corps whose only reason for being in the Corps was their love of the tradition of the university, and without whom the Corps could very well cease to exist? Yeah, screw those guys.

I don't remember any issues, good or bad. It was different to see a suit instead of uniform when he visited the quad, or at reviews.

When I entered the Corps as a fish in Fall 1989, former students were telling me how much easier the Corps now was, how integration ('DEI') was ruining outfits, etc. Also remember gripes about folks at the Trigon meddling.

And to be fair, by the time I was a senior just 3 years later, I remember thinking how my fish had it a lot easier than when I was a fish.

What is that saying? The more things change the more they stay the same?
Plus ca change. Plus c'est la meme chose.

I often say those of us D&C bags were the truly redass. We shined the floors with toothbrushes, got steam showered, quadded, and smelled like brasso for 4 years with no commission in site.

With 17 years of AD, couldn't agree more. If you wanted a purely military experience go to a service academy. The Texas Aggie Corps is a unique institution with many benefits beyond strictly military training and service. There's a lot to be said for the relationships you build with your D&C counterparts and even non-regs off the quad for that matter.

We did too.

Rent a buddy or whatever, but I'm not sending my kid to an organization that punishes outfits for being too good at performing over others that don't give a ****, values skin color over merit for leadership positions and allows cadets with different sexual proclivities to break rules that straight cadets get punished for (kissing in uniform).

I know the corps has been going to hell since my Granddad was in it, but feckless woke losers like General Ramirez have made it loud and clear they aren't looking for people like my family. Fine. I'll take my money elsewhere.

Nothing but truth here, and unfortunately this happens to so many students. The University's process is designed not to be fair to students, 100% against all the Aggie Core values…

Never understood this mentality.
The non regs paid money to live in a dorm. They rented their friends. The Corps kids did the same.
However you want to disguise it, that's up to you.

But the dogging of fraternities is just dumb in my viewpoint.

I was wondering if you were going to show up. Saves me a phone call!

Oh, and while I'm at it, Colonel Parsons was highly regarded by the Cadets - hence having the Cavalry named after him. Give me a great O-6 leader over any flag officer. I also agree Jake Betty would have been an excellent commandant.

Everyone loves Betty because he's fair and not a political woke ******.

So they have had 3 years to plan on this timeline, yet they don't have a replacement?

Interesting

Executive searches on campus can easily take up to a year or longer. The last Commandant search took 16 months. An interim will be named, happens all the time.

Confirmation bias is driving this discussion.
