he has never shot that gun before or at the very least only a few times. I have Beretta a400 and like any semi auto , it takes some shooting time to get the rhythm down for loading shell into the chamber. The first time you own a semi auto versus a pump gun is learning process.

It literally takes 2 seconds to learn. You pull the charge handle back, drop a shell into the receiver area and press the bolt release button.

I don't like the guy, but pheasants are not migratory birds. They're a non-native upland game species and AFAIK no state requires a plug for that. Just like Texas doesn't require plugs for turkeys or quail

He is probably one of those officers that fired a weapon in basic. Being an artillery officer that was active mostly during peacetime he likely has very little time on the field with any weapon system.

Guy was enlisted. I expect more of NCOs on the handling and operations of weapons, especially one who joined the infantry.

Cool. Didn't know that about pheasants, but if you read the article, when hunting in a WPA in Minnescrotum (as they were), you're required to have a plug - even for pheasants.

If that's his gun, he's a fraud. I own a semi-auto and pump and could load/unload both of them blindfolded, as well as remove/install the plug in the magazine.

If it's not his gun, that can be a different story. Sometimes I have to briefly inspect it to locate the various mechanisms to load, advance a round, etc. But that usually only take a few seconds to figure it out.

And yeah, the finger in the trigger guard is such a basic no-no for anybody who handles a firearm.

If you watch the full CSPAN video you can easily see he was attempting to load the shotgun not unload it by "ejecting" them. He was clearly trying to load a weapon he has never operated before. You can tell by the way he handles the piece it's foreign to him.



In this video it shows exactly what happened to him and is common with people who have never operated a shotgun before. It's a simple task. Drop one in the chamber hit the bolt release and load the tube.

Finger looks straight and off the trigger to me. His thumb is visible on the other side. Dude is clearly FOS about being some kind of hunter though. Struggling to load/unload is one thing, but in the second video he just clearly has no idea how to hold the weapon. Over and over he reverts to holding it like he's a flag bearer in a color detail or like he's trying to "present arms".
