The other argument goes that Puerto Rico has a national guard that has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
For many people that are foreign to the USA...... serving in the military is a gateway to citizenship.

How is the USA gonna say that your good enough to wear our nations uniform, and die in our wars, but not good enough to actually be one of us?

The reason that PR statehood has bipartisan support is that the United States wants its own tropical Version of Las Vegas. There are going to be major casinos and hotel chains that are going to set up shop in Puerto Rico.

I have a feeling that Puerto Rico will become the 51st state sometime in the next 30 years.

Hawaii was the last state admitted to the United States and that was in 1959.
The USA has only had 50 states for the past 65 years or so.

There is going to be a lot of pressure over the next 50 years to turn Washington DC and Puerto Rico into states #51 and 52.

Dade County in Miami is heavily Republican for an inner city county.
There is no reason the Republicans couldn't represent Puerto Rico.....especially if the island is turned into a tropical gambling paradise.

DC would totally be in the tank for the Democrats, but the flip side is that very few people live in Wyoming, Idado or the Dakota's...yet the GOP has 8 senator from these states.

The GOP has 8 senators from these 4 states that represent about 4 million people.
That is less people that live in Dallas or Houston.

If you look at the demographics of the 2 places..... its pretty easy to understand why Wyoming gets 2 senators, but Washington DC does not.

There is going to be a New World Order and they aint respecting old arrangements. There is going to be a major push over the next 20-23 years to have Puerto Rico and Washington DC become #51 and 52.

Someone was never taught in school that the Senate was designed to represent the state governments, not people. A clue is right there in the name of the country.

Lack of understanding of the differences between the two chambers of congress, why a state like Wyoming has the same representation as a state like California in the Senate, and why that's important in a republic, is the type of crap intentionally programmed to create ******ed communist supporters.

These "useless" states feed you and keep you alive and our Founding Fathers were intelligent enough, obviously far more than you, to understand they needed protection and a voice. Your representatives represent you, the individual. Again, SENATORS REPRESENT THE STATE NOT THE PEOPLE, the population doesn't matter. How many representatives does California have compared to South Dakota?

I suspect the reason you are so passionate about this subject (that you have to resort to juvenile name calling) is that you are succinctly aware the reason DC has no representation in the US senate is that its population is mostly black.

I can't believe how far off the rails this thread went.

I went to PDC at least twice per year from 2002 to about 2013. Went back with the kids in 2017. Doubt we go back. We didn't stay AI - always in a boutique hotel on the beach in town -- and never really felt unsafe. Reason we won't be going back is partially because of safety, but mostly because PDC lost its small-town, local charm and is now just Cancun Jr.

As for the rest of Central America, Costa Rica has already been mentioned and is fantastic. They have caught on though, and it is no longer cheap.

I'll throw in a vote for Belize. We had a great time - half in the jungle and half on the water. Unbelievable scenery and snorkeling. Never once felt unsafe except when I almost got pickpocketed near the water taxi port in Belize City.
