Trump and Catholicism

I know that Trump isn't Catholic, but I believe that Melania is. Trump has had two very Catholic tweets in the last few weeks. Do we think he's...
- Just pandering to get Catholic votes?
- Like a lot of older people who are in the last years of their lives, he may be 'finding' religion?
- Something else?

My initial thought was that he's just pandering, but there are a lot more generic tweets he could have done to accomplish that.

Saint Michael and Mary aren't just catholic

Correct, but the Mary tweet was on a Catholic feast day for Mary and the St. Michael prayer is definitely a Catholic prayer.

I like them. Not catholic here so I've never been about all the Mary stuff but I can't see a problem with it. Angels and Archangels seem pretty cool though and most protestants believe in them... I think even baptists acknowledge Michael as an archangel

But the veneration of Mary and the Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel are exclusively Catholic phenomena.

Him posting the Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel was pretty wild to me. It's a pretty niche prayer, a lot of Catholics don't even know it. Very random and caught me by surprise when I saw it.

Probably pandering, but I honestly couldn't care less. He's not Kamala, so.....

But Catholics who would recognize the Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel were probably already voting for Trump at a 95%+ clip. I don't know for sure, but there are probably better groups to pander to.

My wheels have really been spinning since I saw someone post that earlier today. Just a really surprising thing to see lol.

I'm a devout catholic and conservative voter. Trump is not religious and I find anything he says on the subject eye rolling. Pure pandering. That said, he is by far the preferred candidate to further Christian values. As wild as that is.
TAMUallen

Anglicans/Episcopalians and maybe Presbyterians take to it?

It's a good tweet.

NOBODY is calling you out on anything Christian when you're running against Kamala and maybe that's why he doesn't mind doing it. It isn't losing votes and guess what, you're not seeing it from the liberal left who think they get religious women

Trump wasn't overly religious before, but still Christian, now he's been quite thankful directly to God after his 1st attempted assassination.

Just a WAG, but St Michael is the patron saint of first responders, many of whom are doing hurricane relief.

Can't accept a man who accepts the works of God?

Or are we judging him on who we thought he was and what we thought his sins were still?

Hit home for us. Our parish says this prayer after every mass. My oldest son knows it by heart.

Sunday is/was the Feast of the Archangels so it was no coincidence he chose Sunday to post the St. Michael prayer. Trump is following the Catholic feast days with these posts.

We do the same…immediately following Mass the church prays the Hail Mary followed by the St. Michael…We often add it at the end of our bedtime prayers as well.

Bottom of the line for me, I'm glad he's posting like that.

Some may question why he's posting and question him but in reality it's best to be posted. Don't question the man, trust the prayer

From yesterday's readings:
Jesus said:

There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us.
People of integrity expect to be believed, when they're not, they let time prove them right.

This guy has assassins chasing him 24/7 and is trying to get elected to root out some of the evil in our country. Fitting prayer. Not pandering when you put it in context.

Catholic here. Also know the prayers and love both of these feast days.

Is it pandering probably, but I think about the readings yesterday and reflect on their application here:

From numbers: "The LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses.
Taking some of the spirit that was on Moses,
the LORD bestowed it on the seventy elders;
and as the spirit came to rest on them, they prophesied.

Now two men, one named Eldad and the other Medad,
were not in the gathering but had been left in the camp.
They too had been on the list, but had not gone out to the tent;
yet the spirit came to rest on them also,
and they prophesied in the camp.
So, when a young man quickly told Moses,
"Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp, "
Joshua, son of Nun, who from his youth had been Moses' aide, said,
"Moses, my lord, stop them."
But Moses answered him,
"Are you jealous for my sake?
Would that all the people of the LORD were prophets!
Would that the LORD might bestow his spirit on them all!"

And the Gospel:

At that time, John said to Jesus,
"Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name,
and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us."
Jesus replied, "Do not prevent him.
There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name
who can at the same time speak ill of me.
For whoever is not against us is for us.
Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink
because you belong to Christ,
amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward.

"Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin,
it would be better for him if a great millstone
were put around his neck
and he were thrown into the sea.
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off.
It is better for you to enter into life maimed
than with two hands to go into Gehenna,
into the unquenchable fire.
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut if off.
It is better for you to enter into life crippled
than with two feet to be thrown into Gehenna.
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.
Better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye
than with two eyes to be thrown into Gehenna,
where 'their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'"

Are you pandering for Satan?

Satan is the alternative.

The left is godless and you're worried about a tweet favoring Christianity

Choose a side and live with it.

Matthew 7 : 1-4

"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

Thats between him and God, but his lack of external change suggests a lack of internal change.

Quite recently, God whispered something in his ear.

I don't see any reason to think he isn't genuine about his tweets. He has plenty of reasons to become more religious, and if he is sympathetic to Catholicism because of his wife, so be it.

In order for people to make any sort of fundamental change, they must experience some sort of significant life-changing event. Having a bullet take off a piece of your ear would certainly qualify as such. Maybe he's pandering and maybe he's benefited from some personal reflection. Or maybe both. But I think it's poor form to eyeroll a tweet simply because it came from Trump.
