What are some ways we can help out here in TX? Best groups to donate to?

I would bet that Samaritan's Purse is very active there, specifically because of location. Very good organization.

They are on the ground and have air support.

They are. They have a specific fund for this.

.Ditto that.

Samaritan's Purse is located in Boone, NC, which is north of Asheville. Boone took a nasty hit as well. They are asking for donations, but they're also running commercials in East Tennessee asking for volunteers.

The local television stations are all over the disaster, and yesterday when they were interviewing an older women (who lost everything in Newport, TN), she made the unsolicited comment, "Thank God for Samaritan's Purse."

Here's a connection I found of interest. Samaritan's Purse is partnering with an organization in Lubbock called
Breedlove

They are a non-profit that manufactures and distributes food to those in need. Breedlove has already sent a truckload up to Samaritan's Purse for distribution. So...there's another organization that one could donate, and support an organization in Texas at the same time.

I have been wondering where the Governor of NC has been because I haven't seen him on TV this past week except when Biden or Harris were there.

Looks like I'm not the only one asking.

I've been working alot this week and have been out of the loop so appreciate this thread. It has made me tear up countless times reading it this morning. Can't even comprehend the destruction while I can comprehend our governments complete abdication of value, authority, and legitimacy.

The good thing here is that I've nailed down where all of our annual charitable spending will go this year, and it will be to this effort. I'll look at Samaritan's Purse and the other one posted but any and all recommendations are appreciated.

Exactly. The government has made all sorts of "misinformation" websites yet the people on the ground doing the actual work all say a different story. All of the government photos and videos are pure staged psyops, not one of them ever shows anyone doing any actual work, just random people talking. This is probably because they think talking is actual work.

Don't pay attention to the week of long form videos from people actually on the ground. That's a lie! See? I took 4 selfies with me pointing at stuff in the background and posted them on Twitter! That's how you know what I am saying is true!

**UPDATE: Colorado Task Force 1 (CO-TF1), October 5, 11:15 am MDT**
Today members will be continuing search and recovery efforts in McDowell County, NC, along the Catawaba River, with the support of a heavy equipment task force. There is quite a bit of debris that is creating difficult access for the team and the Human Remains Detection (HDR) K9s and their handlers.
CO-TF1 has almost completed primary searches in the areas they've been assigned and are now mostly focusing on targeted searches in areas with confirmed K9 hits. This involves hard work utilizing hand tools, saws, and probes, taking place on both land and water.

Not bad for a normal guy just trying to help out. Seems like he is doing quite well for himself and his organization just trying to feed first responders.

From wiki:

Quote:

The World Central Kitchen (WCK) raised almost $30 million in 2019, then $250 million in 2020.[24] In response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake, Andrs provided locally cooked dishes specific to the region essential to comforting people touched by disasters.[25] Since it was founded, the NGO has organized meals in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Zambia, Peru, Cuba, Uganda, Cambodia,[2] and in Poland on the border of Ukraine.[26] It has provided aid and meals in the United States and Puerto Rico and has helped during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.
In 2021, Jeff Bezos, the owner of The Washington Post and Amazon, handed Andrs $100 million through his Courage and Civility Award.[24] During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Andrs announced that he was going to donate a part of the $100-million[27] to the organization to address the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.[28]
In 2022, WCK took in $519 million in grants and donations.[24]

Among the misinformation FEMA highlights is a claim that the agency does not have enough money to provide disaster assistance.

The agency says it does.

Well that was a pretty easy fact check

Exactly. Has anyone in the MSM brought this direct evidence they are lying?

I'm glad Elon is helping

Not exactly. I just got back and can tell you that ATC ****ed us. Whether it was incompetence or they were being told to do things to **** us, they were a huge hindrance. With the largest supply drop operation out of Concord, the controllers were making us wait 30-60 minutes to depart on 40 minute flights. Then Charlotte TRACON ****ed us by refusing to answer requests for radar services to the north and west. Some airports were turned into "prior permission required" meaning we had to have a volunteer dispatcher calling ahead with tail numbers. One of the days, the tower controllers told us that we had to use 10 minute VFR departure slots, which is also asinine and nothing I have experienced in my flying experience, even in events and locations with 10x the departures.

It's bad there, but the people involved in this will restore your faith in humanity. The people of western NC and eastern TN were incredibly grateful. Just a single group pushed out over 400,000 pounds on almost 700 flights to communities that would have otherwise had nothing. Every last pilot just spent days of their time and thousands out of their pockets on gas and hotels. Every night I sat at the Texas Roadhouse bar and talked to different pilots who had come from all over to do what they could. The Concord airport somehow magically lost my credit card when I needed quarts of oil. I had county jail prisoners and city government officials in Johnson County, TN hugging me and thanking me and others for what the entire community is doing. Ashe County was the same, minus jail inmates. In Rutherford County, I almost lost it when I was given a handwritten thank you card and told the children wanted to know how best to thank us.

So yes, **** the government. But don't lose sight of how much that area and this country is coming together to help our own. America is great.

The NG isn't in Asheville. They moved to a different airport and are doing some SAR but they and the rest of fed gov has only moved 600,000 lbs. of relief supplies total with all their people and equipment. Government ****s up everything it touches.

Primary SAR is out of Hickory, which is closed to fixed wing. We had to beg to open it up to get planes of former PJs and other SAR assets in. Some were planning to drive as close as possible and hike in. Again - America is awesome. The government sucks.

I've heard stories of aid flights not being allowed in from multiple people. Part of the issue is that the companies providing government contracted services do not want the "competition". The suppliers and service companies make a killing on what they provide. Take food services, for instance. The suppliers are knocking back 40% plus profit to supply Red Cross, etc. Then Red Cross, etc, knocks back whatever to actually cook and serve. Only 20-30% of the govt paid amount is pushed out on plates.

On the flip side, the suppliers are there right away, and some even have mobile kitchens that the service organizations use. But overall, it seems to stink a bit with the absurd profits made in a catastrophe.

I ran supplies in Katrina, and have relatives in foodsevice supply, so don't hate on me and tell me I'm wrong.

We have given to Samaritans Purse, Churches of Christ Disaster Relief, and I gave to a local group in Avery County because I love it there and want especially to help the folks in that particular county.

Churches of Christ is going to have very low overhead.

Samaritans Purse is going to be much more widely recognized and probably has a reasonable overhead and is way better than the Red Cross.

Biblical reference. I prefer to conduct my charity efforts in private, anonymous.

I never want any praise for just doing what is right and to help people when I can.

Other people who have to announce how 'generous' they are, are ringing the tambourine...for themselves.

To be clear, that statement does not include people who are organizing and getting aid to the massive number of people needing assistance. They are doing the Lord's Work.

But I am in the position I am in. Physically challenged with mobility. So I can give money to people who can help. Because I cannot/

Do what I can. No kudos needed nor wanted.

The White House is so scared that their first priority is to put out a thread "debunking" everything, calling people liars, and then lying themselves. Zero accountability from these losers.
