Heard on Utah news that Katy has 40,000+ Venezuela's. How many are gang members?

Is this where you wanna be when Jesus comes back; making fun of poor Joe Dirt?

It has been called Katyzuela for years. But it got its name when they purged all the oil and gas execs and engineers and anyone not loyal to the government years ago. So it was originally the educated, well off Venezuelans. I work with quite a few of them in the industry and they are multi generational at this point in Katy.

We know a lot of Venezuelan families at our kids' (Catholic) school.
The families are educated professionals who were able to find oil and gas jobs here in the US and escape Venezuelan policies.
But many of them have been here for years. No connection to the gang activity you see in the news.

Same here.

The ones I know are similar to the anti-Castro Cubans. They are more adverse to the creeping communism of our national and local politics than most of the out of state transplants and native population.

Are they aware of the need to stockpile bleach and the early evaciation plans as soon as a storm is in the Gulf?

Just stunning how much the dems have destroyed the country in less than 4 years. If kammie wins, we're cooked. There's no coming back.

I grew up over there and there were plenty of Venezuelans in my high school. Great people for the most part. Their parents were pretty much all successful white collar O&G people. Who knows how that's changed. Would be a true shame if they've been supplemented by thousands of illegals.

As long as they play football (the American version) they will fit in just fine. Katy HS is all about football

Back in the 1990s I worked with a huge international company from Mexico on a project here in the states. Their head of engineering was a Cuban. The legend with this guy was that he had been a plant engineer at a refinery when Castro came to power. The plant had been shut down during the revolution, and they came to him wanting him to help get it restarted. He told them no

How he got out of Cuba alive was a mystery, but he had everyone's respect.

One of his sons also worked for the corporation and was kind of an arrogant turd, though.

That's been my experience with Venezuelans pretty much as well. A lot weren't professionals (i.e., degreed), but they all had full-time jobs and were as productive as anyone.

…. And your school can find a field goal kicker somewhere in their spawn.

I've built several houses for Venezuelans in the Katy/Richmond area. Great people, very kind and welcoming. The women are almost always hot.

Most of the Houston based Venezuelans that I know are very proud Americans, mourn what happened to Venezuela, and cannot figure out why any one would support communism much less socialism

Less than 1%

I worked with a couple of Venezuelan O&G engineers. They were fine.

They did take a siesta during the lunch hour, which I thought was funny.

Some recent Venezuelans moving to Houston are not going to Katy. I have met some that have no idea the amount of Venezuelans in Katy. They are now ending up in Southeast Houston and Aldine Many have no family connection when they get here…..versus the ones who came here pre-2021

I am pretty close to the VZ community here in Houston/Katy.

One of my workout buddies is a first gen Venezuelan immigrant. He's a proud Fightin Texas Aggie, conservative, and is CEO of his own oil company that he started just a few years ago. He's also a tough mf'er.

I'm very happy to have people like him in our country.

40,000 X 1% = 400
Hope it is way lower.

I am one of them although technically I was born in Phoenix while my mom and dad (O&G) where there on assignment….lived in Caracas for 16 years before moving to texas

The Katrina trash people we inherited in katy were far worse than anything the working class Venezuelans are. Worthless garbage people and their kids were dumb as bricks, lowered all Katy schools average gpa by entire points.
