Due to the fact that the Haitian immigrants (legal) that settled in Springfield found an environment with jobs (although low-paying) and an existing Haitian culture, more Haitians moved (mostly from Florida) to take advantage of the low rents (due to the loss of existing residents) and ready (low paying) jobs. As these were legal immigrants, there was not a problem with employing them. Local businesses found these Haitians were honest, reliable, and did a good job. I have not heard of an employer in Springfield to have any disparaging comments about Haitian employees.
The false narrative of "eating pets" is a form of "blood libel" (look it up).

Why would the officer "retract his statement?" This crazy lady did in fact kill a cat. However she was born and raised in Ohio and has nothing to do with Haitian or other immigrants nor Springfield.

Our culture , and often our law, doesn't take kindly to the taking of pets for food. If you want a duck or goose, go to the grocery store, go hunting outside of such urban habitat, or find a friend who hunts. Their culture has resulted in likely the biggest shi#hole country in the western hemisphere, and people are right to push back against the cultural destruction (not to mention the physical destruction) of their communities by such trash people. Between 1960 and 2010, Springfield population dropped by 27%, due primarily to deindustrialization. In 2014, the city government, desperate to do something to reverse the decline, decided to launch a pro-immigration campaign named "Welcome Springfield". AFAICT, they weren't specific about what countries they wanted to attract immigrants from, but the campaign got the attention of some Haitian organizations, and ultimately 20,000 Haitian immigrants moved there, with predictable effects on race relations.
