This was the question my conservative, yet usually politically uninvolved, wife asked me this morning.
I said "They flew 20k Haitians into a small town of 60k in Ohio and there are reports of the Haitians eating some of the cats and dogs. The Dems online are saying Trump is lying about it but the more people look into it they are finding it's true."
Neither of us watched the debate yet here we are talking about an immigration issues in Ohio.
Interesting. I have nothing real to add to this anecdotal exchange other than I wonder how many other conversations about this topic are being had around America by the silent majority?
You make it seem as if "somebody" flew 20K Haitians into Springfield overnight. That is demonstrably false. The 20K
legal immigrants arrived in Springfield over a period of around 5 years, most of them arriving by bus from Florida. Of course, the city of Springfield has lost around 20K in population due to local residents voluntarily leaving due to economic conditions over the past 10 years (most under Trump). Springfield was definitely a city in decline.
Due to the fact that the Haitian immigrants (legal) that settled in Springfield found an environment with jobs (although low-paying) and an existing Haitian culture, more Haitians moved (mostly from Florida) to take advantage of the low rents (due to the loss of existing residents) and ready (low paying) jobs. As these were legal immigrants, there was not a problem with employing them. Local businesses found these Haitians were honest, reliable, and did a good job. I have not heard of an employer in Springfield to have any disparaging comments about Haitian employees.
The false narrative of "eating pets" is a form of "blood libel" (look it up).
