The highest level at NPR was 270.

Second place was 144.

And there were several below that.

Big write up in the WSJ recently about these clinics prescribing testosterone. First step is to test blood levels.

Unfortunately this is an epidemic even among men who constantly workout and eat well. I know multiple people, including myself, who tested in the 200s. All of us lifted weights 3-5 days a week and we were all jacked and were former jocks who had been great at sports.

All 3 of us had the classic symptoms: lethargy, no motivation, and the beginnings of random weight gain.

It's a big problem nowadays, far more than it used to be. I can't imagine how it must be for men who never lift weights. I felt miserable before I started trt.

Serious question. Not meant to derail or insult. How is your diet? I ask because this was my experience. And I'm 6'1", 192, and a BJJ black belt that works out a minimum of five days a week.

Went to one of those low T clinics and narrowly failed the first test. Went back for the second one two weeks later (since you have to fail two to get prescribed) and had just got done rolling and eating lunch. The guy walks in all pissed off and goes "What did you do?" I asked what he meant and long story short, my working out and eating a good meal before being blood tested raised my testosterone to the point of passing. He said I'll have to come back and retest and don't do that again before the test. When I said "Well, if my testosterone is naturally high due to working out and eating healthy why wouldn't I just do that?" The appointment went ice cold after that and I haven't been back since.

This is my biggest problem with the "Low T" industry.

There is a ton evidence testosterone is lower now than previous times in history. However, these clinics are so obviously trying to force as many people as possible on T treatments. I think in 10-15 years we might find out that it actually caused more harm than good.

After leaving Afghanistan I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism which caused insomnia that I still deal with 20 years later. The body reproduces testosterone while you sleep so you can guess what the insomnia caused. As the years went by, my mental health declined until a nurse asked if I had ever had my testosterone tested and sure enough in my 40s I had the t levels of an 85 year old man. I do two injections twice a week now and the improvements to my mental health have been extreme. I honestly think that's why we have so many school shootings and what not, a generation of young men with historically low t levels. In addition to the mental health improvements it's also helped a lot in the gym, especially with recovery. Working with the VA now to get it all covered because the likely culprit of it all was the burn pits in Afghanistan which the VA just started recognizing with the PACT Act

Also, one other observation, I think the reason for the low levels of t in young boys is their diets. I'm a foster parents so we get a lot of kids from the system prescribed a crap ton of meds. It's amazing what a few months drinking raw milk and eating homegrown and raised food has on them. In some cases they were able to get off the various mental health meds

Older guys too. I would imagine if one were to lose weight, cut way down on alcohol, sugar, grains and carbs in general that it would go a long way in making one feel better.

I cut way back on all that stuff but the insomnia was still there

I literally said my diet was good. The other guys I know had better diets than me and one was obsessive over it.

I don't understand why some of you don't want to admit we are exposed to a massive amount of endocrine disrupters everywhere nowadays. It's not just the processed foods, it's literally everything in modern society.

I find this interesting. 43yo here, I exercise 5 days a week, diet is good but not great. 6-7 hours sleep a night. Cardiologist checked my levels last year and they were well into the normal range. I don't know that it's a lifestyle thing, something either genetic or "in the water" so to speak has to be in play.

The only thing I do differently than most is I have a desk job but built a standing desk 10 years ago and stand all day at work. Could sitting all day at a job do it? I dunno, maybe?

I admit too much of the stuff can be trouble too. Getting older has had advantages. Too much makes you aggressive, continually awed and distracted by the female form and prone to making some poor decisions when you know better.

A good life is about balance and making good decisions. Balanced T and other hormone levels with a good value system and strong education make that a little easier.

BTW balanced T in mass is ALWAYS needed or else you get the classic "weak men make for a destroyed society" thingy.

About as funny as a bunch of guys posting on a board that was started as a way for men to come whine about a sport where the traditional way of initiating action is to have a guy stand behind a bent over man, put his hands between bent over man's legs with the top of his hand pressed against his balls and ass. And then watch them slap each other's asses when a play works.
