In my circle this conversation has been a topic. Never been a topic before so it's interesting. It got me thinking what it would take for me to sell my house and liquidate all assess and get citizenship in another country. I've thought about this a lot a these are the things that would do it:
1. Civil war
2. Collapse of the u.s dollar
3. A shooting war with China or Russia

Any of those things happen and I'm out. What would it take for you to move and be a citizen of another country? Where would you go?

A tax on unrealized capital gains is pretty high up there. That signifies the death of the American dream. The actual death of the country won't be far behind.

Even if Harris wins, this is still the BEST PLACE ON EARTH. Don't lose sight of that.

I get what you're saying and mostly agree with you. But in '20 I watched Austin descend into unchecked riots/street takeovers and mass homelessness while Dems sat back and encouraged it. Police retired or quit in droves. It's gotten better as the saner Austin Dems got control, but knowing that Dems can pull the switch like that and turn everything to sh/t almost overnight is concerning.

It would take finding a better alternative to the US. Haven't found one yet. I'd want a reasonably warm climate, caucasian majority population (I don't want to move just to become a minority somewhere), capitalist economics and politics that are more conservative than the US. As far as I know, such a place does not exist. New Zealand and Australia are partial matches but are significantly less free and are way more liberal.

May I suggest a stopover in Thailand for a few weeks on your way there?

A lawyer I know (ran for Georgia Senator as an independent) went to Russia to pick a bride and married her. They now have like three kids and are doing great. Been married for about 15 years now.

My only concern with Thailand, am I really with a woman or a woman who was a once a dude.

Buck, I agree that right now the us is a better alternative, but if any of the 3 things in my hypothetical start to occur the us won't be any better than a lot of other places. The ticky part is getting out before any of those things happen, but not panicking and bailing out too soon.

I'd move to that new country that just broke off.

I went to ****et (married at the time) and went to Bangalore Street. There were probably 50 signs on the street for massage parlors and only one of them had "no sex" on the sign. I have a pic of me and the ex with it somewhere. I had a sudden onset of soreness, but she wasn't buying it.

We both later had a "reputable" Thai massage and she still was climbing all over you and massaged whatever ligament there is at the very top where your leg meets your torso. I have no idea of their politics there, but it might be worthwhile anyway.

Seriously, there are a number of American terriitories such as American Samoa or the Northern Mariana Islands or Guam that might be worthwhile.

Even with all the problems in the US, there really isn't a better, practical alternative. Not unless you have Elon money. Or at least Mark Cuban money.

If there is a "fight" it's going to be one that is quite survivable. It's not going to be an army on army type thing its going to be more of an event akin to the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Sporadic events of violence in isolated locations that bring on acts of reprisals that bring on more acts of reprisals. Thus, I don't see having to move to another country as it will be able to avoid the points of disturbance. Having said that I really don't believe things will get to that point.

Nothing. I love this country and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
