Really good WSJ article about the story behind who blew up Nordstream. Was it any wonder? Remember when they blamed Putin blowing up his cash cow?

Summary? Are they connecting the dots back to Biden* or stopping short at pretending that a couple Ukrainians with diving certs were also magically underwater explosives experts?

Just by reading the title (and the source) I can guarantee that article is 100% regime/swamp propaganda.

TLDR version.
Ukraine decided to do it.
Zelensky gave his approval.
CIA found out and said don't do it.
The crew was already in route and ignored the order to stop.
Various intel agencies were aware of what was happening.
Seems it qualifies as a war crime.
The leader of it has been appointed ambassador to the UK so he now has diplomatic immunity.
The end.

I found it interesting to see what all the intel agencies knew, and how the Ukes did it.

I'd assume the story is maybe 50% true, with some misleading details added and a lot of details left out that will never see the light of day.

Story says it's Ukraine military and business guy with military and civilian divers did it

German police have done a huge investigation with plenty of DNA/fingerprint/explosive evidence from the rented boat that they didn't clean Ukraine doesn't extradite and everybody knows to get back to Ukraine. The former head of military who kept the plan rolling after it was found out by CIA (who told them not to do it) is now an ambassador who has diplomatic immunity.

Zelenskyy tried to stop it but it was too late.

Story is behind a pay wall, how did they get the explosives on the pipeline? Not sure I buy civilian divers from a rented yacht.

Obscurification of the historical record is what we seeing.

Advancing plausible deniability.

The story published last year by Seymour Hersh seems closest to the truth.

That said I'm shocked we haven't seen retaliation for Nordsream ... yet.

Why not? They do a lot of work on things like offshore oil rigs and other deep sea work. I don't think it would take long to teach them how to attach the explosives for remote detonation.

The ones who stood to gain the most from this were the Ukrainians. Europe was hurt by losing a source of nat gas driving up their costs.

Hell, I could get a couple dudes from Seadrift to handle that for a case of Natty Light and the promise to make sure someone gets a picture of them next to the explosive.

Wildest part is that Biden told the Russians' to say goodbye to Nordstream before it got destroyed.

Same deal as when he said 'time to put Trump in a bullseye' and Trump got shot.

Make fun of Biden all you want but he'll tell you what he gonna do and does it.

Because the pipeline was thick, concrete-encased steel, at a depth of 260 feet. There are about five groups in the entire world that have that capability and it isn't civilian divers and Ukraine.

I find it suspicious that all these people with such inside knowledge of the story were so willing to spill the details to a WSJ reporter.

Also wonder if the timing has anything to do with the reporter being released a week or so before from Russian prison.

Biden brags about quid pro quo with Ukraine. Trump impeached for it.
Biden suggests illegals to come to America. They do.
Biden suggests Putin to invade Ukraine. He does.
Biden suggests Nordstream would be destroyed. It is.
Biden suggests Trump to be targeted. Trump gets shot.

Seems to be a trend here.

So our intelligence agencies told us it was Putin immediately but knew of this plot the entire time - and no one has been arrested?

Is this not an attack on a NATO country and response is due now?

Biden who got to the point of grandpa who couldn't find his car keys, needed naps during the day, and took hours to get up and down the steps of Air Force One was actually the Evil Genius behind several conspiracies across the Globe? That Joe Biden? Uh yeah, probably not. I am skeptical. Or is this board now using the word 'Biden' as an umbrella term of a bunch of other nameless people behind the scenes?

Removepaywall is your friend, folks. Excerpt:
Quote:

One of the most audacious acts of sabotage in modern history, the operation worsened an energy crisis in European assault on critical infrastructure that could be considered an act of war under international law. Theories swirled about who was responsible. Was it the CIA? Could Putin himself have set the plan in motion?

Now, for the first time, the outlines of the real story can be told. The Ukrainian operation cost around $300,000, according to people who participated in it. It involved a small rented yacht with a six-member crew, including trained civilian divers. One was a woman, whose presence helped create the illusion they were a group of friends on a pleasure cruise.
…
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky initially approved the plan, according to one officer who participated and three people familiar with it. But later, when the CIA learned of it and asked the Ukrainian president to pull the plug, he ordered a halt, those people said.

Zelensky's commander in chief, Valeriy Zaluzhniy, who was leading the effort, nonetheless forged ahead.
Somewhat ironic they try to 'blame' the decision on Zaluzhny, who is now…living in London as an 'ambassador.'
Quote:

In the wake of the attack, which took out three of the four conduits forming the pipelines, energy prices surged. Germany and other nations scrambled to nationalize energy companies that handled Russian gas but collapsed after the pipelines were destroyed. Even today Germany is paying around $1 million a day alone to lease floating terminals for liquefied natural gas or LNG, which only partly replaced the Russian gas flows channeled by Nord Stream.
…
Zelensky took Zaluzhniy to task, but the general shrugged off his criticism, according to three people familiar with the exchange. Zaluzhniy told Zelensky that the sabotage team, once dispatched, went incommunicado and couldn't be called off because any contact with them could compromise the operation.
"He was told it's like a torpedoonce you fire it at the enemy, you can't pull it back again, it just keeps going until it goes 'boom,' " a senior officer familiar with the conversation said.
Nuland and Biden were pretty clear the pipeline had to be stopped if Putin invaded Ukraine.

Disagree. Continuation of the war makes fodder of Ukrainians who would benefit most from a treaty. The War Hawks and gas exporters were the ones who got the most up side with the least down.

Not that we'll ever know, but I'd wager a poop slap that at least one frogman (active or former) was involved in the planning or execution of the attack.
