Columbia, Harvard, and MIT students have all filed suit against protest organizers who deliberately closed down campus activities such as going to class or commencement. These protests were in order to make anti-Semitic statements/support HAMAS.
The attached video is a Fox interview with the lawyer representing the Columbia students.
He says "Students for Justice in Palestine" was responsible for funneling money to the protests but that others named as defendants include faculty, faculty unions, and three "squad" members who trespassed onto Columbia in order to incite protestors to do illegal activities.
Incitement is not protected by the First Amendment.
The suit could be worth 10s of millions $ because it seeks to rep the whole student body.

That's an interesting prediction and I don't know enough about this to argue with it, but I get the feeling that at least some of the students/parents are really unhappy with paying such extremely high tuitions and then not receiving what they paid for...

Good.

If my kid paid to go to a school and was even 1 minute late because of that, I would have hired an attorney by the end of the day.

Just ban protestors from any government jobs... That would stop this nonsense.

Except that an outright ban would deny government workers their Constitutional rights to free speech and assembly. Americans are guaranteed those rights, not just private sector workers.

Protesting is a right.

As long as it does not infringe on the rights of others.

Why sue them?

These institutions created the very culture that encourages this behavior and thinking.

Let me make myself clear, ban protestors from securing a government job. Once they are in the government they can protest all they want.

FYI we were talking about students, not government workers...

I don't care who you are talking about.

Nobody should have to worry about repercussions if they are peacefully protesting.

You are stating that the First Amendment should be ignored.

That's exactly why someone that was kept out of class should sue.

If allowed to proceed, & IMHO it should, I would hope discovery shines a light on those unethical corrupt organizations funding this destructive bull*****

And exactly who are you suing? What will you gain? Will there be any payment to those impacted? I guess it will set a precedent, but that group certainly has no money to pay out, and will simply rise again with essentially anonymous investors willing to sacrifice a few dollars for the unrest.

if it makes it to trial., they will all settle for a token amount - like $100

they are all on the same team. this is just the colleges trying to make nice with the Jewish alumni/donors by saying "see we tried something to take back control".

until the next round of riots.

It says the students are suing the group, not the schools suing them.

You start with the groups and then the schools.

The schools should have stopped it.

Make them live by their own rules. The left is always promoting lawfare. Let them enjoy being on the other side for a while.

They were trespassing. Is blocking a highway "peaceful protesting"? We are not talking about a peaceful protest, we are discussing unlawful occupation and harassment of other students. A peaceful protest outside of campus that did not interfere with the rights of others is free speech.

These "protestors," are either directly or indirectly contributing to the marxist, anarchist groups that are militantly opposed to the United States, capitalism, our history, and our culture which they are attempting to subvert through anarchy and violence.

Law-abiding, taxpaying citizens should never have to sit by, fending for themselves, while enemies of the US are allowed, even encouraged, to terrorize civil society and literally burn it to the ground with impunity.

They are beyond criminal. They are enemy combatants and the penalties should be severe.

Even if defined as "peaceful", I believe many of these protests were not approved by the school's policies. They were already illegally protesting and interrupting the lives of students.
