Or how about maybe let's nominate an actual experienced conservative politician with actual conservative skins on the wall?

Why can't we get out of our own way?
The journalists see themselves as the Pied Piper. Can we change the liberal bent of national press that wants to brainwash the electorate?
How ? They see themselves as activist out to "improve the world" as taught by their Marxist professors.
Agree with you but how do you change that leftest bent ? They have been doing this crap for 4 decades.

My question was mostly rhetorical. Their distorted beliefs of the left are almost impossible to combat. They are arrogant about their mission and are useful.

Probably the best answer is short of violence education is the best antiseptic for this liberal disease.

People may forget but the media largely hated Reagan as much as Trump. It's just that Reagan took a different approach and talked around the media straight to the American people and stayed on message.

This can be done. You won't change the media. Fighting the media doesn't work in large part. Don't waste time trying to change things that won't change (liberal media or voters so committed to the D policies that nothing will change their mind). Find a staunchly conservative candidate who can clearly articulate the message and just keep hammering that home. The stage is set for that to work in 2024. I'm not sure Trump can stay disciplined enough. If Harris wins then 2028 will be even more winnable for a conservative candidate who can clearly stay on message just as Reagan did in 1980.

Somewhat true. But a very articulate DeSantis failed to gain traction against the leftist media.

I proffer that Americans hated that butthole Carter and elected Reagan. Also, the media was the closest to being an honest arbiter of politics at that time. Remember Biden stepped out of the '88 presidential race because the press tortured him relentlessly for plagiarism and lying. The noticeable shift by the leftists to influence the 'stupid' electorate happened in the latter part of Reagan's presidency. Also, many professors were forced out of universities at that time because of their political affiliations.

Agree with a lot of that. What I say is first off Desantis needs to become more relatable. I really like Desantis but was disappointed in his primary performance. He reminds me a little bit of Cruz in that he failed to connect with the every day blue collar worker. Cruz is much worse and comes across too much like a Harvard law professor. I think Desantis can get better but he needs to spend the next four years working on that.

As for the media, yes they are much more openly partisan than they were in the 80s. But candidates have many more tools through social media to bypass the mainstream press. And most people consume their media that way. Reagan had to use fireside chats or speeches from the oval office that the media had to cover to bypass the media and speak directly to the people. Candidates can do that now through Twitter. Trump just far too often chooses to use Twitter to engage in personal attacks versus just staying on message.

I'm not saying the media isn't biased, but it hasn't prevented republicans from being the majority of elected state and federal positions.

It's mostly an excuse to say one candidate wouldn't fair any better against the MSM than another. That is, unless, you're suggesting that Trump would be worse. That's probably true. But then why choose him if he's playing with a handicap? It's a poor strategy.

Republicans dominate that because the majority of counties in this country are rural where people are much closer to their local politics. The MSM bias is meant to target the big metro areas that democrats dominate that are full of low information voters who fall for their bull***** You're making a disingenuous comparison.

The media became unabashedly for the left the minute Trump was elected. What they do now cannot even be considered bias. They are part of a misinformation campaign with the end goal of keeping Trump out of office.

You can lean left or right, but the media has clearly been antagonistic against Trump and treated Biden & Harris with kid gloves.

Opinion piece in the WSJ - while they don't endorse candidates they are generally positive/supportive of Trump. But they are concerned he's about to lose again...

https://www.wsj.com/opinion/donald-trump-2024-election-kamala-harris-jd-vance-tim-walz-cd3d557a?mod=trending_now_opn_1

A few quotes since this may be behind a pay wall...
Quote:

The economic and security fundamentals are teed up for a Republican victory. Voters and especially the working class are unhappy with the economy, as average real incomes have declined across the Biden Presidency. The chaos at the border has spread to cities around the country.

The Administration's insistence on imposing progressive cultural policies by diktat has produced resentment and a strong counter-reaction. Wars are raging in Europe and the Middle East, and China menaces in the Western Pacific. All of this has voters unhappy about the state of the country and looking for change.

Yet with three months to go before Election Day, Kamala Harris and the Democrats have erased the lead Mr. Trump had over President Biden. She's now leading in the national polls, and tied or narrowly behind in the crucial swing states. The same press that covered for Mr. Biden's infirmities until it was no longer possible has swung in behind her. She may not do another interview, much less get a tough question, through November.

One reason for the surge for Ms. Harris is Democrats coming home in relief from their depression about Mr. Biden. But at age 59 she also presents a youthful contrast to 78-year-old Mr. Trump, who has now been on the presidential stage for nearly a decade. She's trying to steal the "change" mantle with her focus on the future, and she'll succeed if Republicans can't wrap her in the Biden record and her progressive San Francisco views.

The Trump campaign knows this, but the problem is the candidate. Mr. Trump has his passionate followers who don't want to hear a discouraging word. Yet the political reality is that he has a ceiling of support that is below 50% because so many Americans dislike him. And now that he is in the news every day campaigning, he is reminding those voters why they didn't vote to re-elect him in 2020.

Ms. Harris in particular seems to have unnerved him as he scrambles but fails to find an attack line that works. He's said she "doesn't like Jewish people," though her husband is Jewish. He's attacked her racial identity, which alienates swing voters. He calls her "low IQ" and "dumb," as if the school-yard insult will persuade anyone.
The last line I bolded is the most important. Trump has a ceiling of support because he is so disliked. Everything he does that turns off the "concerned moderates" just gives Harris, God help us, a better chance at the presidency.

They do call out the press for giving Harris a pass, which is very fair.
