Why does Germany suck so bad at the Olympics? Even compared to other Western European teams. Germany is barely registering in the Medals table

Most populous of Western European countries

By far the biggest economy in Europe, even counting Russia

They suck. I wonder why

Germany used to dominate the Olympics. East Germany had the most robust cheating operation. Not sure why Germany sucks now.

Maybe they should introduce precision engineering as an Olympic event.

Assuming there's no cheating disparity, and given that Germany is a combined, United east and west Germany, seems like they should dominate big

Not only are they not dominating, they are getting crushed in medal counts by other, smaller European countries

If cursory internet numbers can be trusted… roughly 83M Germans* but only 5M are in the competitive bracket (sport dependent; 16-25yo).

Economically, they don't have the resources you'd expect (average housing income under $40k/yr)

Immigrants also account for ~ 20% of the overall population, but tend to be younger.

So where does that leave them? Very few German kids are positioned to be in the athletic pipelines so those are less competitive and produce few world class performers.

Well, but how do those demographics compare to other Western European countries, like France, Britain, Netherlands, and Italy?

Why train for the Olympics when you could be cruising the Autobahn in your Porsche or playing on the Nurburgring?

The culture in Germany is that they fear being recognized as the true master race they are.
Their athletes are heavily dissuaded from participating internationally.

The real Germans are being replaced by Muslim immigrants? Not a lot of great middle eastern athletes.

Yeah....I don't agree with the OP.

The Germans cant openly dope up their athletes anymore, but they are still very good.

Germany beat France today in basketball. France was favored, but Franz Wagner and Dennis Shcroeder played their asses off. Germany dominated most of the game.

Ironically this isn't the first time that Germany has blitzkrieged France.

No doubt that Dirk Nowitski and Borice Becker are proud tonight.
Germany is still alive for the #1 seed in the entire Olympics in Mens basketball.
The might be Team USA's biggest competition outside Canada.
