The Germans beg to differ. They are in the Semi Finals of the Mens Olympic basketball tournament.
They just defeated Greece...despite them having Giannis Atttentekoumpo aka the Greek Freak.

Deautshland is no joke when it comes to hoops. The Germans have one of the better teams left ,and it would not surprise me to see them medal.

France won the 2018 World Cup in soccer. They are going for the World title in basketball.
France has a chance to shock the world on Saturday in the Gold Medal game against the United States.
They will have the two biggest players on the court in Rudy Gobert and Victor Wembenyama.

Germany was undefeated in basketball prior to their loss to France.
I still don't agree with the OP that Germany is all of sudden an athletic wasteland.

she is my favorite German

I've spent a good amount of time in Germany between studying abroad in school and traveling for work. A lot of their male population was lost during WW2. Since then, most of the men raised there have been essentially taught to be apologetic and not masculine. I think that probably has a lot to do with it

Plus, as Robin Williams said, they killed all their funny people.
