It took most of the day but I've now seen a post going around FB regarding the opening ceremony. Multiple people on my friends list have shared the same post, so it's obvious it's making it's roundss in the leftist follows.

Quote:

Dearest Gentle Reader,

I'm about to step on some toes in regard to the Opening Ceremony at the Paris Olympics.

The headless woman was Marie Antoinette. She ruled over France and was found guilty of treason, conspiracy, and stealing from the country.

Sound familiar?

Also, it was not the Last Supper. It was a depiction of an ancient Greek Bacchanal… because, you know, the Olympics are ancient and Greek. Surprise!

And if you didn't know, a Bacchanalia is an uncontrollably promiscuous, extravagant, and loud party. The parties often spanned several days which honored the god of wine, Bacchus (the blue guy covered in grape vine). He is also known as Dionysus, the Greek god of fertility, later known as the god of wine and pleasure.

And finally, it was not Death on a pale horse. It was Sequana, Goddess of the Seine, the River in which the boat precession took place. She was meant to be the representation of the Olympic spirit and of Sequana.

If some of you weren't so busy trying to end the Dept. of Education, you might know this.

Loosen the clutch on your pearls.

Yours truly,
Lady Francis

"Paris is back on its feet, jubilant, flamboyant, creative and open. Free," - Thomas Jolly, the artistic director.

So I don't think ANYONE didn't know that was Marie Antoinette; a very important and significant figure in French history and culture.

The NBC commentators told at the time who the horseman was and their role in French culture.

But THE scene... The depiction of a Greek Bacchanal. Uh ok fine i suppose. Yah the Olympics are of Greek origin, but these are FRENCH! Also and most importantly, regardless of what that whole scene was depicting, that ONE shot, that single frame was intentionally composed to resemble the Lord's supper. To say otherwise is a shallow and sad attempt at gaslighting.

Well, how are we suppose to know French and Greek history when our schools are not even teaching American history, just revisionist crap.

That is our Department of Education.

I can't believe that is their summary of Marie Antoinette. Completely divorced from reality and astounding level of reductiveness.

Even if all of that is true, it's still inappropriate for the event and ceremony.

It seems like a handy thing to say, but it's still no excuse for open debauchery… which is what it was representing.

Well "Dear Writer" if educators spent a fraction of the time teaching in school compared to the amount of time convincing boys to cut their ***** off and not knowing what is a woman we wouldn't have any issues.

I have not seen that circulating, but I'll take you at your word. I have no clue what the producer was thinking. It's obvious it would offend Christians; however, the art history buff in me remembered another similar painting after seeing Bacchus in your post. The Feast of the Gods is another common trope like The Last Supper. The version painted by Jan van Bijlert features a variety of gods from other cultures feasting around a central Jesus figure. The depiction features Bacchus presiding over the feast.

I agree that it was most likely depicting Da Vinci's Last Supper. Personally, rather than express outrage, I'm leaning into His promise in Matthew 5.

Wise words from Monsignor Chris Nalty here in the New Orleans (perhaps this should be in R&P):

I didn't watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics last night, but I woke up this morning to find my social media feed filled with the justifiable outrage of so many of my friends about the drag queens mocking the Last Supper. Am I filled with outrage? No, I'm not. I guess the older I get, the more I am used to the mockery.

My grandfather was in the timber business. And he had an expression he used when he saw someone being unfairly attacked: "No one cuts down small trees." The Catholic Church is the biggest tree in the forests of the world. Many people make their living trying to cut it down. Some of these people are outside of the Church, and, unfortunately, some of these people are inside the Church.

But it shouldn't come as a surprise to intelligent, faithful Catholics. Jesus was very clear in warning us. I could fill this post with examples, but let me use just one: "You will be hated by all because of my name, but whoever endures to the end will be saved." (Mt 10:22).

I don't believe in "coincidences," but I do believe in Divine Providence. And in a remarkable example of Divine Providence, the Gospel this Sunday is the beginning of the 6th chapter of John's Gospel. We'll begin his Sunday with the multiplication of the loaves, and then for the following four Sundays we'll hear the entirety of John 6, including the "Bread of Life" discourse. On the fifth Sunday, we'll hear that many of the disciples of Jesus "returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied Him." Why did they abandon Him? It's because He told them a shocking thing. His attackers had challenged Him: "What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you? What can you do? Our ancestors ate manna in the desert." (Jn 6:30-31). And His response was two-fold. First He said: "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst." (Jn 6:35). And He continued: "I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world." (Jn 6:51). And then came the shocker: "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him." (Jn 6:54-57).

On the day after some drag queens intentionally mocked the Last Supper, the occasion at which Jesus instituted the Holy Eucharist, Catholics throughout the world will begin a five week catechesis on the Most Holy Sacrament of His Body and Blood.

So if you want to be outraged, that's okay with me. But may I suggest that you channel your outrage toward the good. Attend Mass over the next five Sundays, listen attentively to the Gospel, and give thanks to God for the gift we have that is Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.

And yes, I know some of you might want another consolation after witnessing the blasphemy. For that I'll give you some words that St Paul used to encourage the Galatians: "Make no mistake: God is not mocked, for a person will reap only what he sows, because the one who sows for his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows for the spirit will reap eternal life from the spirit." (Gal. 6:7-8).

May God bless you all.

I had to explain something similar to my son several years ago. It sucks, especially when so many people just laughed it off as a nothing burger.

Not sure I believe it. Saw where someone asked the "artist" depicting Dionysus about their take on the Last Supper. He never once denied that it was the Last Supper and that it was actually a Bacchanal or whatever it's called. Plenty of opportunity for him to correct that, but he didn't. Which leaves me to continue to believe that it was, in fact, them mocking the Last Supper.

They knew what they were doing. Lord Lardo Lesbian was clearly depicting Christ.

If you read the comments yesterday from the creative farce behind this stupidity, then you will notice he doesn't deny the tie In between the pagan trannie orgy and the Last Supper.

It was intentional. But now that the heat is getting a bit hotter than expected, we get this late-inning excuse trotted out.

I watched the press conference where that quote was taken. The question asked to him was whether he was aware of Christian and Muslim and other issues with the ceremony. Last supper was never brought up, so there was nothing specific to deny. He was also asked about subversion, and he said he didn't mean to subvert anything but rather he meant to highlight diversity and inclusion. It wasn't clear to me that he was asked about the last supper depiction, so there really wasn't anything to deny.

It's all anyone is talking about....the allusion to the Last Supper. And not any one of them has come out and said "that's not at all what we were doing. It was 100% a bacchanal. We are not attempting in any way to denigrate any religion at all."

Instead, they're avoiding addressing it head on. They're avoiding it entirely other than a flippant comment that tangentially mentions it. So to me, the fact that they won't refute it means that they 100% intended it to be reminiscent of the Last Supper.
