The SOP is "terrifying"? What did you expect to happen? This is exactly what I expected. Next will be a convention bump, and then we'll see where things really are about two weeks after the convention. I expect Trump to still hold a slight but significant edge. He just has to avoid the big self-inflicted gaffes.

The speed and depth of coordination certainly surprised me. I would not have predicted the movement to Kamala to be that fast. Based on the rumors, neither did Obama. Good for you, though.

My thoughts.... so with the following and your own $5 you can buy a coffee...

I think everyone agrees that once the decision was made to turn old Joe out to pasture they had a DEI problem. There wasn't time to start over and hold open and honest primaries. In "conventional" politics the outgoing VP is heir apparent or gets a strong boost in an open primary. So they were stuck with either a coronation of Kamala simply utilizing the line of succession or facing the vitriolic backlash of the identity politics machine that they built if they cast her aside. This of course has all been hashed and rehashed on this site and elsewhere over and over.

This was a crisis of their own creation. Any party insider with a functioning brain knew long ago that Joe was on the decline and there was no way he'd be able to complete a 2nd term. They knew it in 2020 when they used Covid to keep him hidden. When it went on full display it wasn't just Joe standing on stage looking confused. It was the DNC machine and their media lap dogs living their worst nightmare; showing up on stage in front of everyone completely naked.

Rushing Kamala to the front was the only viable solution as the proverbial chickens were all coming home to roost and those chickens were all taking a big $#|@ in the bed the DNC had made and was about to have to sleep in.

Sure the media would rally behind her. Of course the DNC power brokers would rally behind her, it's their only move. THey're all faced with making the least bad decision when all of their options are moldy and rotten.

Now the task they have is to keep her hidden like they did with Joe, only they don't have Covid to use for cover. If Kamala spends too much time before the public giving interviews I think she'll quickly remind the general public just how unlikeable she is. Everyone on this board knows who she is of course, but there are millions of Americans that are tuning into politics for the first time in 4 years. The average American just doesn't follow politics all that closely. LIkely plenty of voters only know that she's the VP and have completely forgotten she was booted early in the 2020 Democrat primary or never even followed the primaries at all.

We're going to see the media and DNC machine firmly behind her. Very limited public events. Everything will be scripted. Everything will be carefully choreographed. Everything will be in 2 minute TicTok format. It's all going to look like her "phone call" with what's-her-name at the BET awards and her "phone call" from Barak this morning. Dubbed over pop-music montages using whatever the trendy song is with the youth block.

Ultimately they know that her policies are detestable to the majority. Her record in the Senate is abhorrent. Her treatment of staff and those around her is a nightmare. I heard yesterday her staff turnover isn't a merry-go-round, it churns like a blender.

It wasn't that fast, actually. Biden's complete collapse at the debate started the clock on what were the Dems going to do to boot Biden and then how to proceed after that? Enough votes in Congress for removal under the 25th? No? Next option. Conduct a bunch of snap polling as trial balloons for other candidates including Kamala. What to do with the campaign funds on hand? Poll the donors. Poll the fundraisers.

There was a lot of scrambling behind the scenes until they reached some form of a consensus as the best they could do. It was still a s*** sandwich but had enough people willing to take a bite anway.
