Things that I have found that can help with depression/anxiety type issues restoring healthy brain chemistry in general:

- Sobriety...alcohol and other substances can feel like a nice temporary safety blanket but they mask how we cope and they only throw our brain chemistry MORE out of wack. When I started abstaining, while it took me a week to start sleeping through the night, everything was brighter and clearer...the leaves on the trees more green, I appreciated the little things that I appreciated more as a child. I was a better family member.

- Gym...There have been so many times I did not want to go and had to drag myself up there, but I never ever regretted it afterwards...same with a run. 45 minute walks are great as well.

- Sunlight and healthy diet...very underrated in our society. Both can be VERY helpful.

- Remember that regular porn use basically acts like a drug and can mess with dopamine levels and brain chemistry in other ways.

- Faith and a relationship with God and his Son...has helped countless people

The Eddie Penny and Dom Raso interviews help bring Shawn Ryan to god which changed his life. He was struggling and Jesus helped him get his life back, including becoming sober for the first time since he was 12.

Talk to someone brother, you have people here and you have your Marine friends. I am here if you need to talk.

I know people say it all the time but find God, it is helping turn my life around. When I am struggling I pick up the bible and it brings me back down. Just 5 minutes and my day is changed

Dawn comes each day, brother, and with it a new life. I often recite a rosary in my hours of darkness. You do not need to know the prayers, simple say one prayer over and over... Let God in and small miracles happen.
