If Biden is the nominee - Democrats lose. If Kamala is the nominee - Democrats lose. Change candidates midstream - Democrats lose. Short of massive cheating, it wil be incredibly difficult for the Democrats to win in November. Trump is very lucky at how this is all playing out.

It should be, and if the other candidate was anyone but Trump, there'd be nothing to worry about. Everyone, including CMs and independents, calling for Biden to drop out want to have a reason to go to the polls and vote against Trump. All they're asking for is someone not named Biden or Harris.

Hillary probably doesn't want Kamala to be the first woman President because Kamala would suck at it and voters may not go there again for a few cycles is my guess. There are really no other Dem women who are up and comers, Whitmer notwithstanding. She's even more unlikeable than Hillary.

Further, Obama can still dangle a plum appointment if Biden by some chance wins again. Bill and Hill will unite with Obama and keep backing Joe. George has been given his marching orders and will follow those to a T.

I still think the DNC moves up the virtual roll call vote to give Biden the nom and then send Biden back into the basement for awhile.

I hate that what you're thinking is actually plausible. And I say that because you're right, there really isn't anyone outside of Gavin who would create any real boost of energy in the party, and I don't see Gavin wanting to waste his shot at the WH on the cycle.

I remain unconvinced that Newsom really has the big money donors solidly in his corner to off set the sidelining of the Biden/Harris campaign funds if Kamala does not top the ticket.

The money is important but threats by some reliable Dem donors not to donate unless Biden is off of the ticket are not united as to who would open up their checkbooks again. That uncertainty is problematical for the DNC as well as for Obama and the Clintons. But that concern can also be dismissed as "where else are they gonna go if we don't give them a choice? Gonna give their money to Trump? Of course not!"

And it is that last rationalization that allows them to hunker down and ignore the current naysayers. Which again brings me to assessment the sooner they solidify Biden as the nominee, the quicker this dies down. Although it feels longer it has only been a week since the debate.

Unlike a lot of scenarios that get bandied about here, getting the details would absolutely require someone to violate Biden's privacy rights under HIPAA. The Dems would take the leaker out behind the imaging center and un-alive them right away, too.

Independents just tuning in have to feeling the same way. No appetite remaining to vote in either direction. That likely equates to a much lower turnout in the general. And that is bad for the Dems.
