Confused I am.
Is Elan Musk and X going to be rebroadcasting the CNN debate or just allowing posters to comment/criticize what they are seeing on the CNN broadcast on their TVs?
He's allowing people on X to rebroadcast CNN's debate and provide live commentary during the debate. Something that I would much rather watch than CNN's broadcast.

I don't think they can livestream the debate on Twitter without CNN's permission. CNN can't stop people from tweeting about it though.
Elon Musk disagrees with you.

Wouldn't be the first time he's wrong about something.

Maybe you could just lay out your case as to why CNN has the right to restrict public commentary on a presidential debate which affects us all.

CNN will hold the broadcast rights. If people just want to just tweet about the debate then that is ok. If someone tries to broadcast/rebroadcast the debate while commenting on it the that will infringe upon CNN's rights.

Elon Musk isn't infallible, folks. He is often wrong.

Who is CNN licensing these "broadcast rights" from?

The fact it is a presidential debate doesn't automatically make it public domain. It would have to be a state sponsored and produced event.... IF CNN is producing it, it's not free game, they still have broadcast rights.

For clarification purposes as to how we got here.

Quote:

Weeks after President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump publicly criticized the Commission on Presidential Debates, opting instead to participate in media-produced forums, the organization officially canceled its planned debates for the general election, including one at Texas State University.
Quote:

The university was set to be the first in Texas to host a presidential debate and planned to spend $5 million to make the event possible.

"Given the letter dated May 15, 2024, from Jen O'Malley Dillon, Campaign Chair for the Biden-Harris Campaign, in which the Biden-Harris Campaign informed the Commission that President Biden will not agree to debate under the sponsorship of the Commission during the 2024 general election campaign, it is unfair to ask the four campuses to continue to prepare for their debates, as they have been doing since their November, 2023 selection," commission co-Chairs Antonia Hernndez and Frank Fahrenkopf said in a statement.

"We are grateful to the sites, and we are sorry to come to this decision," they said. "We are dismayed that students of the four campuses will not have the opportunity to participate in these historic voter education forums."

Quote:

No clue... I just recall hearing there is no live audience. It's a sterile auditorium.
There will be spin rooms. Newsom will be there for Biden.

Quote:

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday is slated to attend the Presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

Two sources close to the situation who spoke on the condition they remain anonymous confirmed the governor is scheduled to head to Atlanta for the debate as a surrogate for the Biden campaign. The New York Times reported earlier this month the campaign had asked Newsom to serve in that role in what's known as the "spin room" to speak to journalists following the debate, which is airing on CNN.

I'm refreshing my X feed every so often. I won't watch the actual debate as my blood pressure is already high enough.
