It's woke driving apps, y'all.

Quote:

According to a recently deleted post on X, Google Maps doesn't offer a scenic route option due the risk of income loss in poor areas.

The thread in question comes from Kasey Klimes, who worked as a Senior UX Researcher for Google Maps between 2017 and 2021. He starts by stating that the current Google Maps algorithm is objective, and that any "shift towards "nice" or "scenic" routes is going to take some new subset of variables into account."

This bias would then lead to Maps "inadvertently diverting foot traffic from low-income streets takes [and] tax dollars from struggling communities and funnels it instead to richer communities."

The thread has been deleted, Google has responded to Tom's and they updated their article.

But..

This is the same company so worried about bias that their image generator happily produced black Vikings and Nazis. So, I would discount their disclaimer. I have little doubt they would route motorists and pedestrians through dangerous neighborhoods just to avoid potential charges of racism.

Trump will fix it.

Liberals. Sitting in their utopia tech bubble in California and looking at a map and deciding "theres a poor area" while sniffing their own farts and not realizing that they are kinda being racist by implementing this.
