This is a great example of investing capital and time to start a business to make a profit. The employees get paid to help create that profit. When the costs make a profit unlikely, the business closes and the employees no longer get paid. The owner loses his profit, and the employees lose their jobs.

I cannot understand, how or why they don't understand...when you increase costs and operating expenses, prices have to be increased also. Then *news flash*, business likely drops off and the business shuts down. Econ 101.

Who couldn't see this coming a few years ago when we saw a three fold increase in minimum wage?

I was in Colorado for the last week and stopped off in Golden yesterday on our way out of the mountains. My buddy (a conservative Aggie) lives in the area so we met up with our families for a couple Father's Day beers before we caught our flight home.

My Aggie buddy had a couple other buds with him and I had a chance to visit with one of them for a while. I'd guess he's 45-50, nice level headed guy. He said he's always been a liberal but with how things are now, he's definitely to the right of center, even though his politics haven't really changed.

We started talking about how expensive everything is and how people don't go out to eat or drink like they used to. We discussed their minimum wage and the "living wage" myth, as the Denver area now has an $18.29 minimum wage. On this area he's moved considerably rightward as he sees that minimum wage and living wage are idiotic ideas that only hurt everyone, especially those it's supposed to be helping the most.

Minimum wage shot up overnight while others wages haven't increased at the same rate. Things get more expensive, people in generals wages don't increase at the same rate, therefore people stop spending and those $18.30/hour jobs are lost when the businesses close.

It was pretty cool chatting with someone on that side and seeing their lightbulb brighten as they discover fiscal conservatism.

Getting rid of minimum wage would be the best choice. This would be decreasing regulation and removing a barrier to entry.

Of course, killing minimum wage does nothing if you don't kill at least 75% of the government handouts along with it.
