This is at a Catholic School, of all things.

Quote:

A student has been notified that he and his sister will not be allowed to return to Saint Bonaventure Catholic School following his refusal to edit his speech.

American Faith reported that the student, Jimmy Heyward, was told to edit a campaign speech for the role of Commissioner of School Spirit and Patriotism.

School principal Mary Flock told Jimmy he needed to remove content in his speech surrounding patriotism and his love for America.

Jimmy's mother then launched a petition to remove Flock from her position.

The school has since informed the Heywards that Jimmy and his sister will no longer be associated with the school.

I don't want to live here anymore. If patriotism is forbidden, what's the point of having a country you love?
Elections are when people find out what politicians stand for, and politicians find out what people will fall for.

I've seen Catholic schools do this in the 70's.

This is small potatoes compared to other things, but I think 48 hour rule still applies. An article mentions that Jimmy's mom tried to get the principal fired… I wouldn't be surprised if she went full Karen and went off the rails somehow.

There are a bunch of marxists among Catholic clergy. Look at the Pope. Jesuits are well known to be really into "social justice" as well.

Nothing in his speech should have needed editing.
His principal likely was triggered by the hat he wore and talking about making pep rallies and the school "great again".

It looks like the students were kicked out due to some "electronic communication policy". Probably posting the speech that their son was not allowed to give is worthy of expulsion.

Video shows him wearing a Trump red MAGA hat. My guess is that the hat is the trigger.

Now if the school had a strict "no politics" rule, and don't allow any Democrat signs, gay signs, BLM signs, etc, the school might have a point. Especially if they warned him and he wore it anyway

My cynical side is thinking he could have gotten away with almost anything political, except for Trump

Note that the video was posted by the parents because he was not allowed to give his speech at the school. If he insisted on wearing the hat at the school event, then you could have a reason for why he was banned from giving his speech.

Edit to add: It appears that the boy copied the MAGA hat but used the school's name instead of "America". I can see how that can be considered forbidden in Southern California.

I also like the school's policy stating that it supports free speech, and in order maintain free speech, the administration must approve what the students say in their speeches.

I went to Catholic school in Texas from kindergarten thru sixth grade. 1969 to 1976. Every morning before class the entire school, led by nuns, gathered in the breezeway to recite the pledge of allegiance and sing 'my country 'tis of thee' and the star spangled banner. Every. Day.

50 years, give or take. That's how long it takes to go to hell in a hand basket.

Only in 2024 America is it deemed offensive to have a political party with a slogan about Making America Great Again. To hear Hiden Xiden say "MAGA Republicans" as if it was a term for third class citizen is bewildering.

Agreed, CINO's. It is weird that all the libs may have grown up being forced to attend church but then use the Catholic Church as an invisible force field so they can never be questioned…

This school is in California so no one should be surprised. It does not matter if it is private or not for the contamination is pervasive.

No transcript but the email from the school is included:

Here is a link to the boy giving the speech. It doesn't have a written copy. It also has the mother's comments

Didn't the nuns at the Catholic college (where Butker gave his speech) come out and denounce his speech? That is supposedly a conservative Catholic school, too. Somebody mentioned there being a lot of Marxist in the catholic clergy and that is quite true.

The kids weren't kicked out because of the speech.

They were kicked out because:
Quote:

Since Thursday, May 16th, certain actions have taken place which are in direct violation of this Code of Conduct and Parent Electronic Communication policy, which include:
- speaking to administration in a way that is not in line with our expectations for
respectful and courteous communication
- posting disparaging remarks about the administration and faculty on social media, that has led to a smear campaign of the administration
- inviting outside community members to join in an unsanctioned gathering on parish grounds
- promoting a petition on a public social media forum to remove the principal from her position
- making threats to the administration if demands are not met

Basically the parents used the speech objections as a pretext to be aholes.

Were the objections silly bordering on ridiculous? Yeah. But their response was over the top. I would also bet this isn't the first issue this family has had with the school administration either.

It's not a public school and the same rules don't apply.

Ok, accept that at face value, but it's still tied to the original issue...

What the hell is the problem with a student making a speech that is patriotic?

That is idiotic and should be confronted, even at the risk of being expelled from the school.

FTR, there is a ton of angst about this. The Benedictine order didn't object. The faith director didn't object. There are many Sisters that I know personally who didn't object. It seems nobody really knows who "denounced" the speech "as a group" because nobody in the group or the hierarchical group itself objected.

There are tons of enemy spies within the Church. It is the literal Bride of Christ, and Jesus said it would be attacked from within. The enemy will always keep attacking

But don't whine or feign indignation when it happens. And don't lie about what happened.

Yeah. School administrators don't have a god complex. Especially know it all liberal 'Catholics' that vote for abortion. I have no clue what the principal's politics are but she did quit or was fired. LOL.

Quote:

Ruggles' petition seemingly worked as parents were informed last month that Flock left her position at the school, according to a mass email dated May 23 sent by the school and shared by Ruggles on Change.org.

"It is with sadness that I inform you that Principal Mary Flock will not be returning to St. Bonaventure next school year," the email sent to the school community read.

Looks like the school administration was upset there was a presdure campaign being run against them or to criticize them, so they silenced it. It is a private school, so within their rights if enumerated in the policy, even if it may be self serving as well.

Yeah, while there seems to be a fight over the kid's speech, the expulsion of the family feels more like the administration is p*ssed off that they got called out in public.
