DISCLAIMER: I am not familiar with credibility of the source. I hope it's exaggerated and nowhere near being true, but wanted to post it so everyone would know.

The Trudeau regime has introduced an Orwellian new law called the Online Harms Bill C-63, which will give police the power to retroactively search the Internet for 'hate speech' violations and arrest offenders, even if the offence occurred before the law existed.
Quote:

This new bill is aimed at safeguarding the masses from so-called "hate speech."

Revolver.news reports: The real shocker in this bill is the alarming retroactive aspect. Essentially, whatever you've said in the past can now be weaponized against you by today's draconian standards. Historian Dr. Muriel Blaive has weighed in on this draconian law, labeling it outright "mad." She points out how it literally spits in the face of all Western legal traditions, especially the one about only being punished if you infringed on a law that was valid at the time of committing a crime.
Quote:

Muriel Blaive:

The Canadian law proposal is outright mad. It is retroactive, which goes against all our Western legal tradition, according to which you can be punished only if you infringed a law that was valid at the time when you committed a crime: "And it isn't just stuff you've posted after the new law comes into force you can get into trouble for oh, no but anything you've posted, ever, dating back to the dawn of the internet. In other words, it's a gold-embossed invitation to offence archaeologists to do their worst, with the prospect of a $20,000 reward if they hit paydirt. The only way to protect yourself is to go through all your social media accounts and painstakingly delete anything remotely controversial you've ever said."

And there is worse!

"Although, that won't protect you from another clause in the bill and this is where it trips over into as yet unimagined dystopian territory. If the courts believe you are likely to commit a 'hate crime' or disseminate 'hate propaganda' (not defined), you can be placed under house arrest and your ability to communicate with others restricted. That is, a court can force you to wear an ankle bracelet, prevent you using any of your communication devices and then instruct you not to leave the house. If the court believes there's a risk you may get drunk or high and start tweeting under the influence although how is unclear, given you can't use your phone or a PC it can order you to submit regular urine samples to the authorities. Anyone who refuses to comply with these diktats can be sent to prison."

By externalizing the defense of free speech to the right and extreme right and by endorsing repression, the liberal left is playing a very dangerous game here. For those of us who are NOT on the right and extreme right, this is rather disheartening… The left is actually shooting itself in the foot and will come back whining, 'amazed' that ordinary people are so 'ungrateful.' Indeed it seems to have forgotten that the rule of law implies to solve disagreements in the voting booth rather than by silencing those who disagree with us. How can it hope to get the support of the public for this insanity

IDC how comfortable we are with our lives, if this is true and progs ever tried to implement it here, then that's a red line and should trigger violent rebellion.

Would it be crazy to think this law was written to target a list of 10 or fewer outspoken critics like Jordan Peterson?

No he wouldn't. He was in possession of classified material that he stole as VP before he was president which he had illegally, and nothing happened. Trump allegedly had classified material in his possession and was the former President. Who has to defend himself in court? Hillary smashed cellphones and had an unsecured private server with a non-governmental email as SOS, so did Obama as president. They used it to communicate to bypass FOIA laws. What happened to those progressive POS? Nothing, this law would only be used against their enemies and those that they perceive as a threat to their power. RFK Jr. would be considered a threat and used against him or his family because he's a threat to siphon votes away from Biden. Progressives would use this weapon to destroy any conservative that opened their mouth challenging their agenda. I'm confident in saying that none of the conservatives on F16 have the financial resources to go up against the DOJ to prove their innocence.

Of course he, and his progressive cabal, will be exempted. I was replying to someone else but read my post just above this one because it pertains to your question too.

I'm always for new and innovative laws. How about a law that makes it illegal to be Justin Trudeau? It's only a civil penalty, but the Court SHALL hold you in jail until you stop being Justin Trudeau (changing your name isn't sufficient compliance). These games are easy.

I might have to rethink taking any trips to Canada, Since the internet knows no borders, seems like this "law" allows them to prosecute anyone they can get their hands on. The perfect lib law, allowing them to arrest anyone for retroactive thought crime, to be defined however Trudeau wishes. And I just thought the Turks and Cacos law was excessive.

Straight from Ayn Rand.

Quote:

There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.

Text of the bill. I haven't read it all, but there are provisions on hate speech as well child sexual material and posting sexual images without consent, including deep fakes.

From the bill:

Quote:

Definition of hate speech

(8) In this section, hate speech means the content of a communication that expresses detestation or vilification of an individual or group of individuals on the basis of a prohibited ground of discrimination.

Clarification hate speech

(9) For greater certainty, the content of a communication does not express detestation or vilification, for the purposes of subsection (8), solely because it expresses disdain or dislike or it discredits, humiliates, hurts or offends.

That is... Incredibly vague.

Arguably, "black face" Trudeau could be prosecuted under this law when it goes into effect.

I don't give a damn what form of government a nation, state, county, or city has. Making any law retroactive is repugnant and immoral.

I'm assuming then that Canada must not have ex post facto limitations on crimes?

Edit: after doing a little digging, I found this which makes it seems that ex post facto is ambiguous in Canada.

I'm sure the bill states that hate speech can't be applied when in reference to straight white males.

There has been a lie that the left has always believed that dictators, oppressive regimes, and strongmen come from the far right. This has never been the case. It has always come from the left. They just can never come to grips with the consequences of their own ideology. The whole reason it is called "progressive" is because it is progressing toward something... and this is that something. Every time.
