Narrator: NPR is stupid enough to suspend the whistleblower, Uri Berliner.

NPR suspends veteran editor who blew whistle on liberal bias at organization

Quote:

NPR has suspended veteran editor Uri Berliner after he detailed his employer's "absence of viewpoint diversity" last week in a stunning rebuke of the news organization.

NPR media reporter David Folkenflik reported the five-day suspension without pay began on Friday.

Berliner penned a bombshell piece in the Free Press that criticized NPR's coverage of Russiagate, the COVID lab leak theory, Hunter Biden's scandalous laptop, embrace of the theory of systemic racism and accused the organization of downplaying antisemitism following Oct. 7.
Time to remove ALL federal funding of NPR. Let that ****hole fall into irrelevancy.

Given that NPR is federally funded, this seems like a slam dunk 1st Amendment violation.

Defund NPR and PBS.

And be quick about it.

Nothing but free promotional coverage for the DNC/communists.
You can't fix stupid.

Our commie government has a propaganda outlet...

Yes, suspended for telling the truth. That tells you about the state of journalism in America.

1) He was right to point out the viewpoint diversity issue. I constantly harp on this at our meetings.
2) If I wrote a public editorial in a newspaper criticizing my employer, I'm sure it wouldn't be a 5-day suspension without pay punishment that I'd be getting.

But is your employer directly funded by the federal government?

And is your role that of (ostensibly) "truth-telling journalist?"

The most glaring piece of evidence of NPR's failures was that even with all of their increased diversity standards, their viewership had become even less diverse since they incorporated it. It's almost completely white college-educated liberal women listening to NPR now.

Remove the "Public" from NPR and let it run on donations... We will see how long it lasts.

NPR does have some great programs, we do not need a NPR news or political programs...

For all the whining some people make about F16 being an 'echo chamber' - there is more diversity of thought and opinion on here than in the "news" industry itself.

So true. One of my neighbors is a diehard Democrat. She thinks she's in the know and sophisticated because the only news she gets is NPR, CNN, and MSNBC. Talk about cultish and closed minded...

Rather comical that NPR actually published its own article " NPR suspends veteran editor as it grapples with his public criticism" writing about itself in the third person as if it is reporting on a different media company. Do they think no one is going to notice they are talking about themselves? Goes so far as to say, "An NPR spokesperson declined further comment" ….Ummm, Isn't the whole article a comment from NPR? Strange.

What's really wild is that the guy who dared voice his opinion probably isn't all that far off from the usual NPR political slant in his personal life. It just occurred to him that they've dwindled down to a leftist fan site the same way as The NY Times, Washington post, cnn and the like instead of news finding.

They reacted the same way this site would if Billy or whoever authored an opinion piece about how TexAgs is too biased for the Aggies. The only difference between the two fan sites is that TexAgs is honest about it.

SInce NPR is completely federally funded could this editor claim a 1A violation These were government dollars that have now taken action to suppress his speech.

Straight from the man himself..

Uri Berliner editorial in The Free Press

Quote:

You know the stereotype of the NPR listener: an EV-driving, Wordle-playing, tote bagcarrying coastal elite. It doesn't precisely describe me, but it's not far off. I'm Sarah Lawrenceeducated, was raised by a lesbian peace activist mother, I drive a Subaru, and Spotify says my listening habits are most similar to people in Berkeley.

I fit the NPR mold. I'll cop to that.
It's a good article, and I think it shows a good deal of introspection. Classic journalism. Go read the whole thing, it's a 5-7 min read.

but he closes here.
Quote:

With declining ratings, sorry levels of trust, and an audience that has become less diverse over time, the trajectory for NPR is not promising. Two paths seem clear. We can keep doing what we're doing, hoping it will all work out. Or we could start over, with the basic building blocks of journalism. We could face up to where we've gone wrong. News organizations don't go in for that kind of reckoning. But there's a good reason for NPR to be the first: we're the ones with the word public in our name.

Despite our missteps at NPR, defunding isn't the answer. As the country becomes more fractured, there's still a need for a public institution where stories are told and viewpoints exchanged in good faith. Defunding, as a rebuke from Congress, wouldn't change the journalism at NPR. That needs to come from within.

They are not completely federally funded, but they are federally supported. Part of their funding comes from member stations (donations) and other private support (corporate donations, but don't call it advertising). Hence, the regular beg-a-thons asking for donations from your local public radio stations

Correct, in addition to Annandale/Ford foundations etc. they take 'sponsorships' and farmed out a lot of their operating budget/costs to affiliates (like Wisconsin public radio) and PRI, "Public Radio International." Even worse, the federal grants to the local affiliates also tie them into giving at least 23 percent of 'their' money to NPR even if they decide not to broadcast 'morning edition.'

It's all highly manipulated and make no mistake; we all pay for it. Never even consider sending in a dime to any local affiliate or any organization that 'sponsors' NPR-Xinhua.

So all the federal funds should be labeled a campaign contribution to the DNC and all Democratic candidates.
