Binge watched this since I took a day off for Spring Break. It basically covers our relationship with Russia/Communism /Soviet Union from the Bolsheviks to the current conflict with Ukraine. Not a bad documentary on the historical side, but the slant was obviously there. They took plenty of shots at CIA gaffes over the years and sometimes made the Reds look sympathetic in spite of Stalin. Then of course, they couldn't help themselves by linking Trump to Putin. All in all, not a bad trip down memory lane for someone who came of age during the Cold War.

I felt like they missed multiple opportunities to hammer the socialist/communist economic system, but they still managed to show that whatever they call themselves, the Russians have traditionally been governed by a bunch of organized criminals and thugs.

It's a shame we don't have a communist super power like the Soviet Union growing up with media sharing the truth about it. The generations after the Berlin Wall fell don't see the pure evil of a socialist state. No type of government has killed more humans than socialism and we have uneducated, uniformed young people in the millions begging for it.

I did get a kick out of one contributor who said "Dr

Yep. The problem with Russia is that it's full of Russians. Russian culture is a broken culture and proof that cultures can be bad or good regardless of color.

China is right there starring at you!

MSM just doesn't want to show it. You can go to YT to see how it is to live there.

China Observer and Serpentza channels have good insight.

I'm currently three episodes in and getting ready to start the episode surrounding Cuba. I went against my better judgement after watching the disasters of The Octopus Murders and The Program because I enjoy the historical aspect of it. To this day one of my favorite classes at A&M was the history of the United States: 1945-1991.

Anyway, it pretty obvious from the get go that this is just a propaganda series to get the population onboard with supporting dropping pallets of cash to Ukraine. I had to roll my eyes when they brought up trump and the lawyer tied to McCarthyism.

The daily wire doxumentatseries on the cold War narrated by Bill Whittle is definitely worth a watch. Paints the commies like the lyrics should be and goes into great detail about the horrors of communism.

It's highly recommended. I believe it's called "What we saw"

Does it touch on how the ussr imprisoned and killed 20+million (conservatively) of its own people... and that much of their accomplishments were supported by this "slave labor"

It does, but it also almost brushes it off as, "that was Stalin so we're not passing too much judgment on the collectivism part"

It does. However, it paints the Russians as loving and admiring of Stalin today. I have no idea if this is actually true or not as I've never asked a Russian about it.

IMO, China was a huge omission from this series. I don't think they even mentioned that it took ~20 years for us to recognize their revolution

Does the 'the bomb' stand for the atomic bomb (ie end of ww2)?

It sounds like 'the bomb and the cold war' brushes of the actual history of the period after the bomb and the first 5 years or so of the cold war (likely including the events that led to the cold war?)? There was only 13+ million imprisoned and ~2mill dead from the gulag system when Khrushchev took power in '53.

Not surprised... but I'll sit out the revisionist history and leftist propaganda. It's a travesty how little the true horrors of the left are taught these days.

Indeed it the title references the atomic bomb and starts with the thesis that there wouldn't have been the Cold War without nuclear weapons. Which is horse****, since it was communism's ideology of world conquest - that all workers of the world had to be "liberated " for their utopia to be achieved - that drove the inevitable conflict, long before WW2. The USSR's ascendancy on the world stage with the defeat of Germany is what brought the pot to boil, four years before the communists had the bomb.

I also learned we only used the bomb in Japan because racism.

Oh, and Japan would've surrendered without being bombed or an invasion of the home islands.

They interview a bunch of American communist apologists.

Yup, quite telling that they summarily dismissed the fact that countless lives were saved by not having to invade.

I don't know why I keep watching this. All of the "experts" they have on are critics of America or our policies. It's as if they decided there needed to be a telling of the history of the Cold War from the "fellow traveler" point of view.

I knew they'd slant this and somehow blame conservatives for all ills. The last doc (Octopus something) was the same. As soon as they started linking Reagan to it, I just stopped watching.

Someone was going to drop a nuke on a hated rival. That we did it when they were in their infancy probably kept the first one from being 10x more destructive than what we dropped on Japan. I hate that it happened and that it was us that did it but it was probably the best of a bunch of bad possible outcomes.
