......just kick California, Illinois and New York ( and a handful of others) out of the Union?

Just Chicago, NYC, LA, maybe Austin.
I'd rather we revert back to city-states after a certain size is met.

A Mex/Tex "merger" would actually make a stupid amount of sense if you could somehow get rid of the significant levels of corruption. I honestly wouldn't care about the drug cartels if you could get them to act civilized like the US pharmaceutical & tobacco cartels.Struggle and Strifer said:

Oh, so now the constituion matters? As I recall...it's a "living, breathing document"LMCane said:

Your TDS is flaring up again. What has Trump to do with the premise? Did you think the suggestion was really as serious one?LMCane said:Zergling Rush said:

wow something no one has ever thought of.
and EXACTLY how do you propose that would happen?
specific details about how to do that under the Constitution.
or does the Constitution no longer matter to most of the Trumpers?
This is the new forum slogan for F16.LMCane said:

Well, we know it doesn't matter to Dementia Joe.LMCane said:

Here is the issue... It is not the states it is the urban centers. So a secession is not the states from the Union, but the urban centers from the rural areas. Just how would that work?Algorithmic Epiphany said:Zergling Rush said:

Well...perhaps the same way things worked when the US "seceded" from Britain???doubledog said:Here is the issue... It is not the states it is the urban centers. After the split, I'm sure some will leave and others will just remain "the loyal opposition" in Texas as they were before.Quote:
John Adams wrote that approximately one-third of the American population supported the move for independence (Patriots), one-third of the population supported the king (Loyalists), and one-third supported neither side (neutral).
Well, since it wouldn't be "Libs" doing the kicking out, it would be conservatives, don't you think the CONSERVATIVES should pay attention to the Constitution?Sharpshooter said:Since when do you Libs pay attention to the constitution?LMCane said:

How about just making a law that makes it illegal for government to aid any state that goes bankrupt? If a state goes bankrupt, they must leave the US until they pay ALL their debts.Ag with kids said:Well, since it wouldn't be "Libs" doing the kicking out, it would be conservatives, don't you think the CONSERVATIVES should pay attention to the Constitution?Sharpshooter said:Since when do you Libs pay attention to the constitution?LMCane said:

I think it would take more than a law...probably have to amend the Constitution. But, I wouldn't have a problem with either of those...Science Denier said:How about just making a law that makes it illegal for government to aid any state that goes bankrupt? Would that be more applicable?
Or, how about a law that when a state goes bankrupt, another state (or two) is allowed to pay their debts and then remove that state from senate/house representatives. Those go to the states bailing them out.
Better?
When Cali can't pay their bonds, they should lose their right to govern.

Not if you can't spell "secede".
It would be harder to exclude Austin into a Vatican City style enclave if we did it that way. Texit would allow us to leave Dallas behind as part of Oklahoma and carve out Austin as a Vatican City/West Berlin type of enemy encampment.Zergling Rush said:

If Texas could secede without its major metropolitan areas it would be set.txags92 said:It would be harder to exclude Austin into a Vatican City style enclave if we did it that way. The Triangle includes five of the 13 biggest cities in the nation (Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, and Fort Worth). And in the last decade, 85 percent of the population growth in Texas has occurred in the Triangle.
Economically, too, the Texas Triangle is a powerhouse. The four metropolitan economies had a combined GDP of approximately $1.3 trillion in 2018 - about 6.3 percent of the US economy and almost 70 percent of the Texas economy.

Last and perhaps most important, Texas must find ways to spread the Triangle's prosperity to the 10 million people who live in the rest of Texas - and especially the 3 million people who live in rural Texas.
