Ya, Russia has always been a friendly neighbor going back 100 years. And then Ukraine did the unthinkable and tried to join a defensive alliance. Basically an equivalent to Pearl Harbor.

Get out of here with this nonsense

You're missing the point. The point is we are trying to surround Russia with NATO countries right on their border when we made an agreement with them that we would not do that. Russia does not want Nukes or all kinds of other weapons parked and aimed at them right on their border. I don't blame them..

The list of people within the government, within the natural security apparatus, who completely opposed NATO expansion is very impressive and long.

Robert McNamara (Sec. of Defense)
Robert Gates (Sec. of Defense)
William Perry (Sec. of Defense)
George Kennan (American diplomat)
William Burns (CIA Director)

They all opposed NATO expansion in the strongest possible language and all explicitly because this would provoke a conflict with Russia. There's this great interview that George Kennan gave with Thomas Friedman from the New York Times in the 90s when they were doing the first round of NATO expansion, and he is furious... What are you guys doing? We won the Cold War. Now, you are picking a fight with Russia?

Of course, we expand NATO and then make overtures to Ukraine and are "shocked" that Russia responded in the very way we all knew they would.

NATO is a voluntary defensive organization. Do you ever wonder why former Soviet states are basically begging to be in NATO?

Also, this war has actually increased NATO's border with the addition of Finland.

Correct. And let's not pretend we really have a 'free press' principle of our own at this point. Look at the demands up thread that Tucker be arrested and tried for treason for having the temerity to maybe interview Putin in a way some won't approve of. Without Mike Rodgers heroic efforts to stop it, the NSA would have removed Trump in month one from office, or prevented him even from being sworn in.

Missouri v. Biden, heck, everything around covid and the censorship industrial complex have proven that beyond any reasonable doubt. More recently;

After the Zelenskyy regime imprisoned an American journalist, Gonzalo Lira, for reporting critically on his administration, he appealed to the State Dept. for help, but the Biden Admin refused to intervene despite having almost complete leverage over Ukraine. He was recently killed in custody, reportedly as a result of torture.
The Biden Admin is currently trying to extradite Julian Assange so that they can try him for "espionage," the same charge Putin's leveling against Evan Gershkovich in Russia
The Biden Admin's aggressive prosecution of BackPage.com publisher James Larkin led the 74-year-old journalist to recently commit suicide
The Biden Admin revoked @simonateba's press credentials after he made a point of asking questions the Biden Admin didn't want asked
The Weaponization Committee uncovered internal Facebook emails showing the Biden Admin's @RFlaherty46 & @ASlavitt "berated" Meta execs, demanding users' info & "tools" to censor Americans & journalists they disliked (including Tucker Carlson).
The Biden Admin is currently appealing to the Supreme Court a federal ruling reminding them that the 1st Amendment prohibits them censoring publishers they dislike
Reporter @lhfang FOIAed emails showing the Biden Admin was censoring evidence of their censoring
Since @elonmusk bought Twitter and vowed to make it an open platform for free speech, the Biden Admin has launched a multi-agency attack on Musk and his companies. The NLRB, SEC, DoJ, Southern District of NY, FTC, & U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are all currently targeting Musk
Biden's NSA surveilled & leaked Tucker Carlson & his producers' communications after he was trying to broker an interview with Putin
Since announcing his interview w/ Putin, the EU has threatened @TuckerCarlson with sanctions and travel bans; he's also on a Ukrainian "kill list" yet thus far the Biden Admin has not felt compelled to speak out in defense of his rights as a journalist

NSA spying is far and wide, often has nothing at all to do with actual security for Americans or spying by foreign powers, and includes the use of contractors doing 'about' inquiries as well at their discretion. It goes way beyond just Russiagate.

The simple answer would have been to tell those countries "NO" when they wanted to join NATO. They can still be our Allies...

Do you even understand what it means to be in NATO? If one NATO country gets attacked, then all the rest have vowed to go to war for that country. Do you think Russia wants that on their border, knowing the USA is part of NATO? Any minor conflict with even the smallest of those little NATO countries on their border could put them in a war with us instantly..

Note that the CIA's involvement is not really a deep secret, either. Crude explanation (sorry, I don't have time right now) goes back through Operation Butterfly/maidan etc:

Quote:

Q: Last question: why "Butterfly"?

A: The site's logo features a butterfly known as the "deadhead hawk". In Latin, it has the name Acherontia atropos, where the first word comes from the name of the river in the realm of the dead in ancient Greek mythology, and the second is the name of the goddess of fate, who cuts the thread of human life. This symbolism should remind the enemies of Ukraine that their fate currently hangs on a very thin thread, and we will do everything to break this thread.

In late 2014 another associated site - Operativ.info - was in action calling for information about saboteurs and terrorists and threatening that if disinformation was detected, they would "regard these actions as assistance to terrorists and take measures against disinformers". Revealingly the Operativ.info site waslabeled as a project of InformNapalm at this stage.

Myrotvorets lists thousands of "saboteurs", "separatists", "terrorists" and "traitors". Sometimes, it has crossed out their photographs once they had been killed, with the label "liquidated". This, for instance, happened after the murder of Daria Dugina in Moscow in August 2022. Today the Myrotvorets site houses links to two other domains which appear to be integral parts of the operation. One - ordilo.org- is titled "STORAGE OF INFORMATION ABOUT CRIMES AGAINST UKRAINE". The other - identigraf.center - allows various categories of users to submit images of individuals for facial recognition scanning.
Here's their link (caution/gross): https://myrotvorets.center/

Short answer: the idea that the CIA is running assassination operations on Tucker Carlson is so ludicrous it's beyond absurd.

I'm pretty sure they understood what it meant even though you guys don't seem too.

These 3 clown Presidents didn't understand what it meant either - GW Bush, Obama, and Biden.

We never promised not to expand NATO

Quote:

"I was in those meetings, and Gorbachev has [also] said there was no promise not to enlarge NATO," Zoellick recalls. Soviet Foreign Minister, Eduard Shevardnadze, later president of Georgia, concurred, he says. Nor does the treaty on Germany's unification include a limit on NATO enlargement. Those facts have undermined one of Russian President Vladimir Putin's justifications for invading Ukraine that the United States had agreed that former Warsaw Pact nations would never become part of the North Atlantic security alliance.

You think that guy has heard every conversation between our President and the Russian Leaders?

Give me a break. Even if it was never promised, do you think Russia wants NATO countries on their doorstep aiming weapons at them? Any fool can see that is a bad threat that no country would want. Japan and Germany are still countries and our war with them was only dependent only overwhelming force not their "will to be a country". If a settlement was reached whereby the citizens of the Eastern provinces of Ukraine were allowed to elect their government - to choose between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, would that satisfy Ukraine? I agree, but I don't think we're going to hear anything different than we already have.

1. NATO Expansion
2. Safety for Russians living in Ukraine (annexed areas)
3. De-militarization of Ukraine
4. De-nazify Ukraine
5. LBGTQZ
6. Biolabs / Mutant Soldiers

I am sure I am missing a few.

If the interview happens and the interview gets aired, I am sure the questions and answers will all be scripted to paint Putin and Russia in the best possible light.

Let's see how it goes.
