Clay's reaction to Alyssa Milano begging for money

She's estimated to be worth north of $10 million and is married to a very successful talent agent. These people are not hurting for money at all and are asking other people to foot the bill for their kid's travel ball? **** that mess. It is far to acceptable to just ask people for money in this country if even the top .1% are doing it.

Bad bull posting that.

I come here to argue with emotional Trump supporters and GET AWAY from the constant fundraiser requests for kids' sports teams.

We've got a guy at work who is always traveling with his son's baseball team, and they go all over--Arizona, Florida, Texas... He doesn't ask for money, but at the same time, I wonder how much he spends on it, and will it be worth it in the end? I believe much of travel ball is about parents trying to live through their children vicariously and hoping they can push their kids into the major leagues. Baseball is a great game, but it's being ruined for those kids who just want to have fun.

You know, the priest at our church just last week reiterated that 'we don't do fundraisers'. Because the role of the church is to serve the community, not require the communities aid to serve itself. So the church needs to fund itself and find its budget balance.

It was refreshing to hear. I do wish it was a message repeated by more in society. Stave off the gofundme mooching.

Sure, I think that is true. But, there is a high cost associated with travel ball, and as the parent, it's their responsibility to consider what is best for the family.

By the way, what major league team does your son play for?

All for a 1/4 scholarship to a no-name school.

I feel like it's one of the biggest signs of the overwhelming increase in abundance in this country. When I was a kid, we went and worked for money. Now, we pay for our kids to go "work" on a baseball field.

I agree travel ball sucks, my son played it, but it does have its place. Too many kids nowadays really suck at sports, and that makes LL and Pony League almost worthless for the kids with some aptitude and ability. LL needs to be split up into competitive and recreational divisions to make it appealing to everyone. Those who just want to have fun and enjoy the game get what they want and those that want to devote a little more time and effort, be able to truly get better and have opportunities to move up and continue playing into HS and possibly beyond get what they want and everyone is happy.

Why worry about your coworkers business? Mind your own.

Sports is an avenue to focus young minds. Would you rather your coworkers son laid around all weekend looking at a screen? You should be celebrating your coworker for caring enough to take the time and expense. Obviously, you wouldn't.

As someone who had a kid do both i say he enjoyed both. Travel ball because of the competition but LL was blast for him because he got to play with his school friends that did not play Travel. Most Leagues do not have enough kids to split them like that either. It was more laid back for him and it actually made him a better player and leader. He was always out there giving his buddies pointers for them to get better. He loved it so much he plans to play his last year in the Senior Division of LL as a 16U. Which will happen after the HS Baseball season is over with.

Make those young men do something to EARN their trip. That's what we did for my son's World Series trip. That doesn't prohibit someone for overtipping at a car wash, but at least they did some manual labor in exchange for the cash.

You just described kids sports, up through high school, in general. At least the modern reality of it.

Our oldest is in his senior season right now of varsity basketball and we really can't wait until it's over in a couple months.

High cost doesn't necessarily mean just money.

My oldest stopped playing football after his freshman year because basketball was his "primary" sport and it was just eating up so much time. The coaches have this expectation that in addition to the normal high school basketball season, the kids play in a fall league, a spring league, a summer league, and attend summer training at the high school. It's essentially year round. And kids feel really pressured to do it for fear of losing the good graces of the coaches.

So unless you are just that good they're going to start you regardless, you attend all the leagues and camps. It taxes the kids out. Grades still matter. Some kids work (mine does). It just becomes so overkill and all consuming. And the parents have to divert a huge amount of their time to it driving the kids around and attending the games.

It's out of control.

We don't publicly do any fundraising for our kids teams. I let them ask their grandparents to get the experience of fundraising sometimes. We have enough money to fund our own kids activities, why would I ask my friends and neighbors to help pay for my kids to travel with their sports teams?

Yeah, one: if you want them to continue to attend church when they're in college or otherwise out of the house, don't miss now for volleyball. You're enforcing the idea that travel ball is more important and they'll use that going forward.

Not a guarantee either way (they could attend or not attend regardless) but something to consider. At the end of the day, you've got to do what you think is best, but you asked. Just don't ask them in 10 years why they're not going to church.

The point I think you are trying to make, I could be wrong, is the opportunity cost. If that's the case, it's a very good point.

I very much support young people playing sports, especially team sports. But the all consuming reality of it these days has left me a bit jaded. Sports has taken so much time away that I wanted and needed to spend with my sons to help them learn other skills and have other experiences. Again, sports is great, but my kids won't be playing D1 or pro ball. When HS is over, sports is over. There was and remains a significant opportunity cost here.

The great thing about a GoFundMe is that anyone can contribute to it if they feel like its something important. I wish we did this for every single person on welfare instead of giving it to them. See if you can have anyone feel sorry enough to fund your issues.

If Alyssa Milano can get idiots to support paying for her kid's trave baseball team, more power to her. That's on them for wanting to show everyone how star-struck they are.
