They must be worried about the speed of the GMC Hummer
because it has an EV at all four wheels.

That should make for some passing on California Highway 1 and any other 2 lane road.

My favorite PSA was "laid back Willie (Nelson) drives 55 to saves lives".
Shortly after the ad campaign started p, Willie's limo gets pulled over doing 80 mph.

People will make a killing setting up repair shops in neighboring states to remove / reprogram the governor.

I remember it because back when I was 11 and my maternal grandmother was 55, I was a little jerk who would see a speed limit sign and say "Hey, that's your age!"

As an old that as a kid had to ride in vehicles that had to observe 70, then 55, and now get to go 75+, I can tell you that 55 was directly attributable to a DemocRat solution, and it SUCKED.

DemocRat solutions to problems negatively affect the everyday American, but benefit the few. That is, unless you are an Illegal Alien, then it's like a ticket to freedom and benefits you never had to invest in.

DemocRats are trash.

Are they so stupid to think that any 20yr old with an iPad or laptop couldn't hack and override that stupid software controlled speed limiter. Just dumb, but what else could one expect from Cali.

Government in action… set a limit over the limit so the new limit is the real limit.

If you're going to do this, why not just set the limit to the speed limit. FFS

In regards to California, I used to say the only reason I would ever return back to that state is if I was being money whipped to do so.

Now, there aint enough money to get me to ever return.

/Ok maybe there is but y'all get the point

and that sucks because CA is the most prime piece of real estate on the globe.

I definitely remember it because I had to make 2 coast to coast drives while this was the law when I was in the Navy.... SUCKED for about 80+ hours. (and the rest of the time driving anywhere too). There is a reason Jimmy Carter was the worst president in history until BHO, and 55 MPH speed limit was it.

The law was enacted in early '74, three years before Carter was inaugurated. There was a permanent provision that Ford signed in early '75.

And Obama was the worst, beating Carter out, so I agree with your sentiment. But let's keep the facts straight.

FYI... Actual speed limits would never work in West Texas.

I find it interesting that almost everyone thinks it was Carter that enacted that law even though it was in response to the first oil embargo in 1973 and signed by Nixon. I remember how much everyone loved when the limit finally went to 65 in 1987. Unfortunately, a lot of people had cars like mine that had small engines geared for CAFE standards that made it had to go 65.

The liberal solution to any perceived problem is to write and pass a long, complicated, but incomprehensible piece of legislation, which few or no one will follow. And those same liberals will refuse to enforce the legislation once it is law. This action is designed to fool the average citizen into believing liberals are actually doing something constructive. Anyone with a lick of common sense will know better.

Laws which are enforced subjectively, based on who breaks them or how serious the enforcer is, are not helpful and only erode the rule of law.

It isn't the MOST prime. That's probably Australia but the problem with Australia is that they're still British.

I will agree that California is among the most choice pieces of real estate in the "free" Judeo-Christian world.

And of course Dems are doing as much as they can to rid California of people who aren't crazy like them.

Who in the hell would even think about introducing a bill to limit vehicles to 10 mph above the speed limit? Much less write it down and propose it before the legislature.

And if California mandates it, then it will be automatically imposed on the rest of the country because auto makers wouldn't want to spend the time and money making models for the rest of us.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. In 1980, we made a road trip from Galveston to Mission Viejo at 55 mph because my mother wouldn't break the law. It took 4 days.

That same trip now takes 3 days and my California friends can't believe that in West Texas, there's an 80 mph speed limit.

So just because it "wouldn't work" doesn't mean it wouldn't be imposed and use Federal Highway Funds to ensure compliance. Just like they did with the 21 year old drinking age.

For those with advanced computer systems, it would be easy to implement with some geofencing and an over the air update. For other cars, I think you would be correct.

My million dollar money making idea is that legislation should be passed to allow Texas to create vehicles that are only licensed for use in Texas.

These "indigenous" Texas vehicles would not have to comply with crazy California laws. Similar to the way firearms manufacturers continue to produce weapons that are not California compliant.

I'm just a few Billion short of bringing this idea to market.

That 55 mph speed limit was probably completely devised by a bunch of politicians that lived up in the Northeast US who had ZERO clue what driving any kind of distance was like. Plus, with all their traffic, 55 probably didn't affect them much.

Should have taken all of those *******s out on a drive from Orange to El Paso on I-10 doing 55 and let them know how bad their law sucked.

The rest were raised in LA where you never can go above 30 mph due to traffic jams.

Remember besides the 55-speed limit, Carter Administration pushed setting your thermostat at a lower temperature during cold month and higher during warm months to help save energy. I remember Jimmy and Rosalyn wearing sweaters and standing Infront of the thermostat pushing this nonsense.

Yes - Carter was so wrong on so many things... but I always felt he loved his country.

Unlike the Biden administration who isn't doing dumb things - it's their policy and apart of their plan to dismantle the foundations of this country and sell it over-seas.

Actually it was Nixon who signed the emergency declaration, passed by Democratically controlled House and Senate on January2, 1974. Remember it well as it "theoretically" added 30 minutes in travel time between home and A&M.
