This seems like pretty likely BS. Rape related abortions are (were) estimated to be about 2% of all abortions. There used to be 50k/year total in Texas, so about 1,300 over a 16 month period. Pretty unlikely for only 5% of rape related pregnancies to have resulted in abortion, meaning this almost certainly significantly overinflates the number and is just intended to rile up the pro-choice crowd and then quietly be disproven.

Honestly if true, it just goes to show that even rape victims would rather keep the kid than kill it.

I call BS.
It's my understanding that the 'rape kit' includes administering the MA pill, Plan 'B' (same thing?), in order to PREVENT a pregnancy.

That study is clearly bs.

But even if it were true, a baby conceived by rape isn't any less important or valuable than one conceived consensually.

Based on this study's numbers, I estimate that EVERY woman of childbearing age in the state of Texas was raped since abortion was outlawed.

This is such BS. In my daily Yahoo garbage email, they had an article saying 65,000 pregnancies caused by rape were aborted Out of state. WTF are rapists lurking around every streetcorner? If only a few resulted in pregnancy that means there are multihundred thousand rapes going on. That would ge the most alarming statistic that needs to be addressed pronto.

No, because it's not a credible statistic. But it's being pushed by the left like it is. That's the point.

The chief medical officer of planned parenthood of Montana is the lead researcher of the study.

I think I can go dig up a study on death row inmates being 100% innocent. The lead researcher is on death row for committing 5 murders, but I'm sure the study is credible. Let me see if I can find it.

Here is the Yahoo article. Not very credible. The 65,000 article is followed by one on Texas.

I estimate (with just as much validity) that PP has turned away 50K pregnant women who wanted help but refused yo have an abortion.

Well, there was a time when feminists claimed a husband having sex with his wife was tantamount to rape.

And a lot of it to justify abortion, for any reason, up to the last second of the third trimester.

The "study" the article cites estimates ~212,000 completed vaginal rapes in Texas among females aged 15-45 over the 16 months during the abortion ban EXCLUDING situations where the girl was drunk or on drugs and passed out. That's 13,250 each month.

In 2018 there were about 6 million women in that cohort living in Texas. If that number is similar today that would mean that each 16 months 3% of women are raped to completion. No f'ing way.

Had a liberal friend knock up a waitress. Tried to force an abortion, including driving her to New Mexico to get one, when she refused once there, asked her to name a price. She said 60k, seriously a sad story to hear and quit a friend over it. Life other than theirs means nothing to a progressive when push comes to shove.

Well, Texas publishes data about the crime rates within the state each year in both per capita and aggregate. For 2022:

Sexual Assault: 18,645
Rape: 14,369

Those two numbers do not add together. Rape is a specific category for national reporting databases that include forced penetration of the vagina or anus with any object or forced oral penetration. Sexual assault includes everything else. All rape is sexual assault, but not all sexual assault is rape. And remember, that number includes women that are prepubescent, past childbearing age, rapes where a condom was used, digital penetration only, and does not remove false reports. Not all of that number carried the risk of pregnancy.

If you assume that the aggregate number of rapes is consistent per year, that puts the number at 19,159 reported rapes over the 16 month period the study is looking at. The study estimates 211,919. Generally, it's been estimated that ~40% of victims report (~20% on the low end), so that number is far, far higher than the estimated actual rate. And that estimated number only looks at ages 15-45.

I also tried to look at their math to figure out how they're finding their numbers and I found some screwy stuff. One of their numbers is that 19.1% of women will be raped in their lifetime. I know that has been brought out frequently in the past, but that still seemed high to me, so I thought I would look at their sourcing, and found this:
Quote:

Women in particular are vulnerable to rape; data collected between 2010 and 2012 indicate that approximately one in five women (19.1%), or an estimated 22.9 million U.S. women aged 18 years or older, are victims of completed or attempted rape at some point in life,
Attempted goes directly against the data that the study is supposed to be considering. Furthermore, the cited study is not the original study the number comes from, so not only did they misuse the data, they didn't cite the original article!

I also found this in an abstract for a pay-walled article that they cited:
Quote:

among adult women an estimated 32,101 pregnancies result from rape each year.
That article was written in 1996, when public sentiment regarding birth control and contraceptives were certainly different than today.

US population in 1996: 269.7 million
Current US population: 342 million
Adjusted per year estimate: 40,707 pregnancies
For a 16 month period: 54,276 pregnancies
US population percentage living in Texas: 8.9%
Estimated rape pregnancies in Texas: 4,831 pregnancies

Oops
