The only reason for this is because Ken is the father (mother?) of the trans movement. Ken was trans back in the 60s, man!
At least RDJ has a good chance to pick up one this year, for the same category Gosling is nominated for.Gigem314 said:
Gosling is a talented actor.
But RDJ didn't get a nomination for Iron Man, or Chris Evans for Winter Soldier, because the MCU films were 'comic book' action movies. But now all of a sudden a performance in a movie about Barbie is worthy of being nominated? Come on.

And people wonder why no one takes the Oscars seriously. And have not in several decades. With these clowns its all about politics or social messaging/engineering. Production quality, acting ,etc have long been irrelevant.
My worthless opinion regarding a worthless organization's nominations certainly qualify as a 'inconsequential thing' which if it matters to you at all equates to get a life dude.Ed Harley said:ttu_85 said:

Would you have preferred that he didn't get nominated? I'm trying to decipher which inconsequential things matter today.
Same. That was the last straw for me after being disappointed in Annie Hall over Star Wars, and Chariots of Fire over Raiders of the Lost Ark.ttu_85 said:Good example. One of many.Urban Ag said:
The last time I watched the Oscars was 1999. The fact that Saving Private Lost best picture to some arts and farts Shakespeare film did it for me. Done.
SPR was a tribute film to our veterans and our country itself. When it got snubbed I was literally beside myself.

As an aside, my wife loved Barbie when she was a kid. I was out of town working so she bribed our teenage sons to go with her. I told her it was feminist BS and she'd hate it. I was right LOL.

Well, it's official: Ken is an Oscar nominee. Ryan Gosling was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Barbie, while Barbie and her female director were shut out.
America Ferrera, as Gloria, was also nominated for "best supporting actress".Urban Ag said:I think it's just the irony that the only nominee in feminist movie was male. Is there ANYTHING that men can't do better than women?
So the writers… the ones that created the Ken character… Didn't realize they wrote him with growth and complexity?NASAg03 said:
Ironic that the one character in the movie that isn't woke also is the most interesting character that also shows the most character growth and complexity. And is a man.
It's a huge backfire on the writers and I love it.
Individual awards are given for the individual performance. Gosling acted his ass off in that role, even if the role itself was not entirely serious.ttu_85 said:
