I left CA in 2014 because life was too expensive. And it's just become insanely more so.

I don't know how on earth business are going to stay afloat. But I thought there was some loophole that if they baked and sold bread they could avoid the $20/hr min.

There is and the min. wage in CA is for fast food restaurants with over 60 locations nationwide.

1. Could someone please tell me how this is equal treatment under the law?
2. I see a lot of McDonalds morphing into McDonnies in CA.

My understanding is that many Mcdonald owners love the idea of increased minimum wage and Newsom is playing to this audience.

Because it actually saves money for McD.

By automating it and getting rid of lazy, unaccountable and incompetent humans.

And young generation love the kiosk instead of having to talk to a person.

My understanding is that $20 is pretty much the market rate for unskilled labor in Cali and won't really impact much. Where they are really impacting things is all of the other regs they are imposing on the restaurant biz. Got this from a Michael Berry interview of a California restauranteer.

It's amazing to me that people can't put two and two together and see the big picture in the increases in minimum wage increases by the Dems........

It's not about fast food workers and their career paths. Y'all should really stop focusing on that.

ITS ALL ABOUT THE UNION WORKERS AND THEIR JOB DUTIES THAT ARE PAID ON AN HOURLY WAGE BASIS.

You can't have a construction site supervisor who's paid $20 an hour or the garbage truck driver, or 1st year Firefighter, etc. making the same as a Fast Food line cook.

Not to mention all those Fed and State Gov't admin jobs that are paid hourly......

When the minimum wage is increased at the low end.....everyone up stream who is paid hourly gets a raise too.

I'm in no way arguing with your point but it's
Somewhat a different subject. The subject I was specifically addressing was the impact on California restaurant worker wages, pricing, etc

Sure the thread was about fast food, but we've seen the exact same comments within every "min wage" thread thats been posted for the last 10 years.......

It's a giant distraction from the real issues. Dems buying votes by trying to inflate the economy.

I don't think there should be a min wage but I understand why it's done.

IMO people should be paid what they are worth to the employer /client in a free market.
