Fani Willis is the type of person that we used to see on Jerry Springer. It's embarrassing how fast we've fallen as a society.

Since Willis apparently got most of not all of evidence against Trump, is there a chain of custody or even fruit of the poisonous tree issue?

Like I said in the other thread. Oops!

Quote:

Parties in the Georgia election-racketeering case are expected to discuss salacious allegations regarding Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade at a hearing next month, the presiding judge said Friday.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee said that a wide-ranging hearing Friday that allegations of impropriety made in a recent filing by Mike Roman, a co-defendant in the case, will be discussed in mid- to late-February.
Quote:

Roman, former President Donald Trump, and the 13 other remaining co-defendants have all pleaded not guilty to all charges.

In a court filing on Monday, attorneys for Roman said, without offering corroborating evidence, that Willis and Wade "have been engaged in an improper, clandestine personal relationship."

The plot thickens.

Apparently the Nathan Wade divorce file was sealed last year but perhaps someone took screen shots before then?

Did Wade conceal the Fani Willis' massive payments to his law firm from his wife during the divorce proceedings? His spending on vacays with Fani? Presents for Fani maybe? Is that why the wife subpoenaed Fani?

(Sidenote: Before I started law school, I worked as a runner/pee-on (no that is not misspelling) at a mid sized firm in Austin. High profile divorce case and I was assigned various duties related to the case. One of those was being present during the husband's deposition with his AMEX receipts. All of the expensive negligees and clothes he bought for his mistress were there for all to see, including our client, the wife. I was just there to make copies of exhibits and the like but on occasion when I left the room, she went with me too as she said, "talk me down before I jump across that table and wring his neck!" Then she added, "You want some slightly used negligees? Because I am going to get those back!" LOL. Rich people divorces. The more one has, the more they can fight over.)

On a serious note I actually thought it was spelled p-e-o-n

ETA: According to Cambridge a peon (doublet of pawn) and peonage have meanings related to their Spanish etymology (foot soldier); a peon may be defined as a person with little authority, often assigned unskilled tasks; an underling or any person subjected to capricious or unreasonable oversight.

It was a joke about how lowly my status was. This was before I started law school so I was not a law clerk, I was a runner for the firm. Meaning I did everything from delivering documents, filing them, all of the copying, picking up dry cleaning, getting cars washed and gassed up, lunch orders, ferrying around lawyers, their wives, kids, etc.

But since they knew I was heading to law school, they also took me to court hearings and depositions, to help with exhibits, documents, witnesses outside in the halls and the housekeeping matters attending to court appearances. They really mentored me. Great group of lawyers.

Wade is being asked questions about Willis by Jordan and the judiciary committee.

5 page letter is HERE

Not that I think anything will come of it other than some uncomfortable moments for Wade and Willis plus some political damamge if Willis wants to run for governor anytime soon.

Ironic that Willis was able to primary Howard, her longtime predecessor as Fulton County DA, other his corruption and over the top threats to prosecute police officers after the shooting at Wendy's.

(If you recall, guy passed out in the drive thru. Cops responded to the call. Suspect was cooperative at first but then wrestled one officer to the ground, grabbing his taser in the process. Suspect then ran away with second officer running after him. Suspect then turned and fired the taser at pursuing officer who returned fire with his service weapon, striking and killing suspect.)

Quote:

The allegation of Fani Willis reportedly having a close personal relationship with the special prosecutor she hired for her case against former President Donald Trump has even Democrats lamenting the impropriety, bad optics, and presentation of political bias.

"I'd tell her to get out of the case," former U.S. Attorney in Georgia Michael Moore, a Democrat, told CNN. "I really think in this type of case with these allegations, this case is bigger than any one prosecutor.

"And I think probably to preserve the case to show what's most important to her is the facts of the Trump case as opposed to her political career, if you will, at this moment."
IOW, her political career is toast.

Quote:

In addition to the allegation that Fulton County District Attorney Willis is Nathan Wade's girlfriend, it is alleged that Willis' office paid Wade more than $650,000 with taxpayer dollars to be outside counsel to prosecute Trump and that Wade has allegedly paid to take Willis on lavish vacations.
Quote:

While former DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James, a Democrat, is willing to overlook the allegations of impropriety being raised, he still says Willis was wrong to hire Wade, pay him a fortune in her career-making Trump case, have a personal relationship, and then benefit directly from the money she paid him by taking vacations with him.

"If I had a personal relationship, I probably would have not done it not because there's anything inappropriate about it, only because people will take it, twist it, and make it look like there's something inappropriate going on," James told CNN.

"It's, just politically, is not something that I think is wise."
Quote:

Willis has the largest DA staff in Georgia, including salaried lawyers with far more experience prosecuting felonies than Wade, who had mostly dealt with misdemeanors, according to CNN.

The allegations about Willis' relationship with Wade are furthered by her being subpoenaed in Wade's recent divorce proceedings, lending credence to impropriety alleged in a filing by Michael Roman, a fellow Trump case defendant.
Quote:

"Now, you've made it that much harder at having a chance at securing any sort of conviction," a lawyer who is a friend of Wade's told CNN. "It's disappointing."

But, despite all the allegations of impropriety, conflicts of interest, and potential conspiracy with the Biden White House, Wade's "utter lack of experience" and being paid more than $650,000 to take on perhaps the most prominent anti-racketeering case in American history against a former president is a major red flag, according to defense attorney Manny Arora.

"The bigger concern is hiring an attorney to handle the biggest RICO case, possibly, in the history of U.S. jurisprudence, when that counsel has never handled a RICO case before," Arora told CNN.

This has been a trend lately of state elected officials hiring attorneys from the private sector on high profile cases. AG Ellison for Chauvin's case, for instance.

Now, it is not unheard of for state or local authorities to hire outside counsel but that situation is usually limited to niche type cases wherein the attorney being brought in has a particular expertise in a complicated area of the law.

The timing here is very curious as to the 14+million $ grant, her appointment of Wade, Wader suddenly leaving his wife of 26 years and his overbilling for trips to DC to meet with Jan 6th Committee members and WH officials.

And then spending lavish sums on Fanni? Maybe not technically money laundering but certainly suggestive of fraud and possible embezzlement. (along fake payee lines)

Fani and Nathan have gotten themselves into quite a pickle.

It's rooted in racism! Fani did nothing wrong!

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/georgia-da-fani-willis-claims-improper-relationship-accusations-based-race

"Fanni Willis claims she an top prosecutor were targeted because they are Black

For the first time since the allegations were made, Willis spoke on the matter at the Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta on Sunday.

"They only attacked one," she said. "First thing they say, 'Oh, she's gonna play the race card now.'

"But no God, isn't it them that's playing the race card when they only question one," Willis asked."

The Methodist Episcopal Church was the original American denomination of Methodism and is essentially the predecessor name to what we now call "United Methodist" or just "Methodist."

The African Methodist Episcopal Church is an offshoot that's existed for over 200 years.

Can we put Nathan Wade on the list of will be jailed first?

Quote:

Just three days after Georgia prosecutors indicted Donald Trump last summer, one of the lead prosecutors on the case faced some legal trouble of his own.

The prosecutor, Nathan Wade, was held in contempt for defying a court order in an acrimonious divorce proceeding with his wife. Wade, a judge in Cobb County, Ga., ruled, had "willfully" failed to turn over documents about his income including, his wife later said, income from his work on the Trump case.
Quote:

Even aside from the salacious allegation, the contempt ruling against Wade in August 2023 shows that he was fighting his own deeply personal legal battle and getting admonished by a judge as he was helping run one of the most consequential criminal cases in American history: the indictment of Trump and numerous allies for their bid to subvert the state's 2020 election results.

Wade is himself a divorce lawyer the website for his Atlanta law firm touts "decades of experience" handling divorce cases. He has little experience running complex, high-profile criminal prosecutions, and Willis' decision to hire him as a "special prosecutor" in the Trump case has come under intense scrutiny in recent days.

It's unclear if Wade was fined or received any other punishment under the contempt ruling. He appears to have eventually turned over the income documents in question, according to court records.
