The year of riots, including takeovers of federal buildings and establishments of colonies, buring down churches, causing presidents tonshelter in bunkers, leading up to January 6th, perpetrated by those friendly to democrats/big govt causes, hardly had their hands slapped. Our own VP was bailing out such protestors.

Guess it really just depends on from which side one is protesting as to whether a misdemeanor means pre trial detention, years in prison or getting out for free with zero consequence.

Plus, why would Trump want the certifcation interrupted? How many objections signed by both a House member and a Senator for how many states were already prepared and ready to go? Was there another legal method to stop those presentations from happening? None that I am aware, EXCEPT if there was an emergency and when finally reconvened, new rules, special rules because of the emergency?

Pence was kind of correct that his hands were tied when they reconvened as there were no motions pending for him to address at that point, thanks to the change in rules. Is that important for maybe further legal action?

It might well have been but we will never know how that might have played out.

Declaring such an emergency to change the rules would not make sense for Trump to do at all.
