It looks like a high kick to me. Twitter is calling for prosecution.

To make it politics related, if the parties were reversed, we would be getting schooled on the systemic racism of hockey.

That's weird.

This seems like a huge sports story but isn't anywhere to be found on ESPN front page.

That happened in England. Black hockey player that slashed the throat of the victim leads their league in penalty minutes.

Probably got a stiff 3 min power play

Like I said. Just imagine if it was reversed.

Wish I hadn't watched it. I was hoping it was fake. That is horrific and sad.

This was not an accident.

Shame on any organization that lets that guy on their team. Even if you can't prosecute that guy in this situation, he should never see the rink again.

I don't know if that was intentional or not but he sure looked distraught after seeing what happened

It was accidental in the sense that he wasn't trying to kick the other guy with his foot.

The guy in red was going for a really poorly timed and obvious cheap shot type of check in sticking his leg. But it was a very sloppy, miscalculated, ill-advised attempt and would have been so even if the horrible injury didn't happen. Which makes even more sense and seems about right if he leads the league in penalty minutes. He clearly takes cheap shots all the time and was trying to do so here, he just let his foot get away from him

I'm not in favor of prosecution for this, but he should be pulled from the rest of the season without pay, dropped from the league, or something. As I said, his attempted check was the definition of an ill-advised cheap shot and this needs to be an example for hockey teams and youth hockey worldwide of how not to play the game.

Perhaps it was a failed hip check. Terrible regardless.

I highly doubt he meant to kill him, but that is manslaughter, or negligent homicide. Dude should never play another second in his life and be put in prison for a while.

He was obviously wearing "assault skates"

I hate to say it, but that may be a factor in why he died. Pumping his blood harder.

I stress the may because adrenaline may have done it anyway if he stayed on the ice.

Very sad.

I posted about this last night buy my thread got deleted. This is straight murder.

This guy was kicked out of two previous games and has a long rap sheet of doing things on the rink.

The video is as clear as day. You have to intentionally try to lift your leg up that high in skates.

You can go back to through all of hockey's history and a scenario like this has never happened. There was a goalie that had his throat slashed in a freak occurrence but that was a huge collision near the net that was clearly unintentional. This absolutely was not. Manslaughter and a lifetime ban at a minimum.

Does a "hip check" typically involve raising the leg such that the edge of the skate is extended toward an oncoming player's neck? Seems to me that it's clearly an intentional move, although of course it's not an intentional outcome. And there are criminal penalties associated with an intentionally, grossly irresponsible act like that, and he should be tried and convicted.

He may have not thought he would kill him but kicking him was intentional. But anyone with half a brain knows that kicking someone in the throat area with a sharp object leads to a good chance of killing him.

Lots more needs to be investigated but if this were milk I wouldn't drink it

Horrific yes. Accident? No way.

Dude DEFINITELY lifted his leg/foot/skate to make contact. DEFINITELY.

Now, did he intend to slash the guys neck? Probably not. That part may have been accidental. But there is ZERO doubt that he INTENTIONALLY lifted his leg/foot/skate to make contact. And since he intentionally lifted his leg/foot/skate to make contact, he's responsible for whatever results from his action.

If this guy is ever allowed back on the ice and dumb enough to try it I bet he doesn't walk/skate off.

"High sticking" with a long smooth wooden stick is a penalty.
Talk about targeting ... intentionally raising a razor sharp steel blade to the neck level of a player has to be more than a penalty ... right?
And he was not cartwheeling from a hit or fall.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I won't be watching that but considering you have to raise your foot high enough to cut someone's neck and this has never happened before in god knows how many minutes of hockey since inception of sport then this should be ruled negligence at best and he's banned from sport.

Nice run on sentence as well.

I don't understand how one could accidently raise their leg and kick upward in that scenario.
FL_Ag1998
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No one is claiming he accidentally raised his leg. He wasn't kicking with his foot at the guy, but yes it was a lift backwards of his knee in a really b.s. dirty hit attempt to check the guy.

If this had simply ended in your average on-ice penalty he (the offender) would have likely claimed he was trying to just hip check the guy. And everyone would know that was a b.s. excuse for a dirty hit. He hopefully would have gotten kicked out of the game and a lengthy suspension.

But because the foot came up as high as it did, we have everyone's worst nightmare.

Looks like he kicks his leg out after initially making contact with Johnson.

I can't get on board with making this a race issue, and really, it would be better if none of us do. There's not proof race had anything to do with it.

They guy is just a dirty player. I expressed my other thoughts in my first post.

Quit driving the race wedge where there likely isn't one. Focus on the facts of what we know with our own eyes. Damed dirty play led to the death of another player and the dirty player should be charged with a crime and never play again.

Because they wouldn't. These professional hockey players have more balance while on skates than 99% of people on TexAgs have while walking.

The Clint Malarchuk injury was an accident. This was intent to injure, and he just happened to hit the throat
