Yes of course thats it. It couldn't be that concessions were made. If those more moderate R's are from districts that vote that way, they could easily flip. People keep acting like in every one of their districts they masses are just waiting to primary them and run a MAGA conservative. They can either work with those R's that are moderate or risk having to work with fewer Rs in the House. There is a difference between conservative Rs and MAGA conservatives. One group has tied all of their political clout and sworn fealty to one man. The other group hasn't.Tea Party said:Gaetz explains it in his video with Bannon.PaulsBunions said:
I'm kind of out of the loop, can somebody explain why he was able to secure enough votes while the other options weren't? How was he able to secure the vote from the RINOs who kept voting for Kevin McCarthy?
Essentially, the people voting for McCarthy were doing it via secret ballot. Therefore they could, and have been, sabotaging SOTH votes because in some instances they have been able to hide their vote.
When it finally came down to the end, someone said let's have a roll call vote so people can't hide. At that point, all of the McCarthy support, which was actually anti-conservative support, had to decide if they wanted to make their centrist political intentions known which is causing all of the SOTH vote chaos or if they wanted to vote for Johnson so they can blend in a little while longer.
They caved and were forced to support the conservative Johnson or risk political fallout.
This. Give me a real conservative that puts his country above all else. Not one who puts himself above the country. Why these Trump or nothing types cant get this basic distinction is beyond me.Ag87H2O said:I'm a huge DeSantis supporter but am ecstatic about Johnson winning SOTH because I want the most conservative politicians to hold positions of power and influence. Agreed. He's better than Jeffries or any number of swamp cretins I half expected to get it though. I'd never heard of him before something like yesterday either. Has he committed to not passing an omnibus or anything at all?

He's right about that and that doesn't mean he supports BLM.

Update. He told me, "I'm a Republican. I don't support the extreme right." I can understand that viewpoint because extern right candidates have turned off independent voters in swing states, costing the GOP control of the US Senate and some US House elections. I hope the GOP nominates the best candidate to win the swing states to defeat Joe Biden in November 2024.Iraq2xVeteran said:
A UT student I know posted from C-Span that says Mike Johnson is one of the most dangerous House speakers in history. I sent him a message that says, "Go Republicans!"

Yeah we won big. Gaetz won big. This is like music to my ears.

MAGA Republicans is the new trigger words . The local dems here in Virginia use it regularly in their campaign ads. It's number one go to word in the national Democrat playbook

I'm saying I'm always happy to replace the speaker with somebody more conservative. If RINOs replace Mike Johnson with someone like Mike Johnson? That makes no sense.
