Mike Johnson is my congressman and I am pumped!

He has the right values, core principles, is a great family man, is courageous, and I believe is a great choice.

Go get 'em Mike!

It is amazing. All the DeSantis mega posters are either anti the result or absent. Something that is interesting to observe and make note for the future...

Mike J in action scrutinizing mayorkas.

Great. Now let's get rid of those rules that allow any republican with a bug up their ass to take him out.
So, you are cool with a $1.7 trillion deficit?

Because, at the end of the day, that is what this thing was all about.
I'm not cool with RINOs pulling a Gaetz and ejecting a conservative Speaker. Are you?
If the speaker goes haywire and starts doing really stupid stuff, I am.
You're dodging. If the speaker behaves like we expect a conservative speaker to operate, and it riles the panties of a RINO, would you be ok with the RINO and a couple other RINO buddies working with all the democrats to oust the conservative speaker.
That would be bad.

But, I would rather err on the side of easier gridlock than easier tyrants. So, overall, I like the rule.

Count me in as a person who:

1) Wanted JJ
2) Wanted MJ
3) Thinks DeSantis >>>>>Trump
4) Is really proud of Trump's record as president

So, maybe don't paint everyone with such a broad brush.

I'm a huge DeSantis supporter but am ecstatic about Johnson winning SOTH because I want the most conservative politicians to hold positions of power and influence. That's also why I support DeSantis.

Not sure what you want me to say? I'm just happy there's finally a SotH and hope he does well.

Neither you nor Ag87H20 would be considered "mega" posters for DeSantis. The ones who post on the Trump vs DeSantis thread every single week and routinely start anti Trump threads would be the "mega" crew.

I fully agree that DeSantis supporters would be ecstatic with the results. Which is why both you and Ag87 are positive and have been supportive. Just pointing out for people to observe who is against it.

Posters like LMC, who always break against anything generally MAGA positive. That was the point.

I'm kind of out of the loop, can somebody explain why he was able to secure enough votes while the other options weren't? How was he able to secure the vote from the RINOs who kept voting for Kevin McCarthy?
Gaetz explains it in his video with Bannon.

Essentially, the people voting for McCarthy were doing it via secret ballot. Therefore they could, and have been, sabotaging SOTH votes because in some instances they have been able to hide their vote.

When it finally came down to the end, someone said let's have a roll call vote so people can't hide. At that point, all of the McCarthy support, which was actually anti-conservative support, had to decide if they wanted to make their centrist political intentions known which is causing all of the SOTH vote chaos or if they wanted to vote for Johnson so they can blend in a little while longer.

They caved and were forced to support the conservative Johnson or risk political fallout.
Yes of course thats it. It couldn't be that concessions were made. If those more moderate R's are from districts that vote that way, they could easily flip. People keep acting like in every one of their districts they masses are just waiting to primary them and run a MAGA conservative. They can either work with those R's that are moderate or risk having to work with fewer Rs in the House. There is a difference between conservative Rs and MAGA conservatives. One group has tied all of their political clout and sworn fealty to one man. The other group hasn't.

This. Give me a real conservative that puts his country above all else. Not one who puts himself above the country. Why these Trump or nothing types cant get this basic distinction is beyond me.

I still don't know much about him and I'm not sure I'd say these were BLM talking points except if you're telling your black son that he will have a harder time, I'm not sure that's the way to go.

I'm sure they do have different experiences and maybe that's all he means by this.

I also don't know when this was recorded.

I had never heard of this name before today, which is really the way it should be, we should know very few of the players in Congress, so who knows hopefully he'll be better than McCarthy.

Agreed. He's better than Jeffries or any number of swamp cretins I half expected to get it though. I'd never heard of him before something like yesterday either. Has he committed to not passing an omnibus or anything at all?

I don't know. I know nothing about him. I really like Byron Donald's, I wish that could've worked but we'll see what this guy can do.

Just remember... the main reason the left, the CMs, the RINOs, the MSM, and those inflicted with what appear to be acute cases of TDS are always saying that MAGA = blind loyalty Trump (what they characterize as a cult of personality) is because they want to it be so, and they are terrified that it is not.

A UT student I know posted from C-Span that says Mike Johnson is one of the most dangerous House speakers in history. I sent him a message that says, "Go Republicans!"
Update. He told me, "I'm a Republican. I don't support the extreme right." I can understand that viewpoint because extern right candidates have turned off independent voters in swing states, costing the GOP control of the US Senate and some US House elections. I hope the GOP nominates the best candidate to win the swing states to defeat Joe Biden in November 2024.

I'm a DeSantis poster and I'm happy with this, or really anyone they selected who can get to 217 just to get things moving again. My guess is that functionally nothing will really change because he's working with the same issues McCarthy had to deal with, but I guess we'll find out in the next couple weeks when the next deadline hits. At a minimum it seems like he's already better than McCarthy at keeping all of the different factions mostly happy so that's a good sign.

Johnson seems like an upgrade from Jordan. Much more grass roots and not as theatrical. Plus he seems new enough to Congress that he doesn't have the same enemies that Jordan has, meaning he can get more votes. Also, he doesn't seem bought by lobbyists.

Apparently he has his own podcast, "Truth be Told with Mike & Kelly Johnson". I plan on taking a listen to some of his episodes to get an idea of what his positions are, but it seems he is a legitimate conservative.

That's nice. What conservative wouldn't want that?

What the discussion was actually about though is that these rules leave open the possibility that a couple of RINOs could team up with the dems and get rid of a conservative speaker that is doing everything we want him to do, and there would be nothing a republican majority could do about that.

I know several on here will try and pretend that's not a problem, but it obviously is. The rules have to be set up to make it impossible to eject a speaker by just a handful of RINOs, because guess what.... we have more than a handful of RINOs.
