I think the big explosion is the secondary. There's a flash right before it, then the big explosion
A secondary from hitting a rocket cache would not send that kind of shockwave across the sky. Whether it was the first or a later hit, that was a large explosion.
I didn't realize only certain explosions create shockwaves
Only fairly large ones create shockwaves visible across a large area of the sky compressing the humidity out of the air.
Yeah, that was a large one. Has nothing to do with whether it could be a weapons cache
I was just basing it on the assumption that secondaries from smaller warheads of the type Hezbollah likely has on their rockets being detonated from in incoming warhead would not be simultaneous enough to create the single sharp pulse necessary to create a shock wave like that. Now if they had a bulk explosives storage there or some kind of rockets/missiles with a large warhead, it would make more sense.
Recall that the giant blast in Beirut a few years ago with a similar shock wave was an accidentally detonation of a warehouse full of fertilizer that had been ignored for decades. A lot of explosives stored in a pile can produce this type of unitary blast.
It would seem to me that a weapons cache targeted for destruction would be more likely to blow up in this fashion if it was comprised of raw explosive material or thin-skinned rocket warheads rather than thousands of thick skinned artillery shells that are made to withstand the pressure of being launched from the bore of a cannon. A giant pile of explosives seems unlikely to be how Hezbollah would store their materiel just because it could be vulnerable to attack
I have seen an air dropped 1000 pound bomb detonate and the video of this explosion is a far bigger blast wave that I recall seeing. I believe I read that the Israelis have used 2000 pound bombs to target underground fortifications in Gaza so they have those. The other obvious possibility would be a thermobaric weapon a.k.a. a fuel-air explosive that is all blast wave and thermal pulse with no fragmentation.
