I think they just uncovered the list of the pagers, figured out how to send a virus to them (presumably as a 'software update) to cause their lithium batteries to explode.



Pretty damn clever, really. Make them operate with pen and paper. That size lithium battery can tear up a groin/hip area pretty good. More graphic videos at that thread/on X.

Even if possible to send a virus to a pager, I am fairly confident that lithium batteries get very hot and catch fire when malfunctioning, not quickly explode like Semtex.

Snowden is very wrong. This was just like a laser guided munition that has collateral damage. These was not the indiscriminate targeting of innocents like a terror attack.

Indeed. Hezbollah just learned that their enterprise purchase agreement for pagers from Computer Discount Warehouse was actually with the Mossad Warehouse of Dirty Tricks. This is probably the largest distributed cyber-kinetic attack in history...so far. Imagine having to employ bomb sniffing dogs to safe-check personal electronic devices.

Lithium ion batteries do not blow up like this, they either had explosives installed in the batteries or pagers. When lithium ion batteries get too hot the cover opens and the gases escape so there is not an explosion. I know this for a fact since we had a customer catch one of our packs on fire and nothing exploded, just had cells popping until everything was burned off.

FWIW, the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon did lose one eye and has severe injuries to his other one, from operation beeper, and I feel zero sympathy for/toward him;
