If the hostages that weren't there in the first place....they've known that Israel has been looking for them for 8 months now. No one is more thrilled at the number of dead women and children (if it's even true) than Hamas.

We think of this as a western war, both sides. This is a middle eastern war fought by Israel with western standards and Hamas under middle eastern standards. What each side does cannot make sense to the other - this is a war of ideology and culture. We should be reminded this is a war where one side embraces death and suffering, the other does not. Innocent lives lost are not the same to either side. Hamas is playing a strong game of emphasizing that in the west, and most in the west still do not understand what this is and how to counter it.
