interesting story about how Israel is planning to defend critical energy infrastructure if major war breaks out:

How Israel is preparing to keep lights and water running in event of a regional war

Electricity and water company officials outline steps taken to keep country supplied under a barrage of missiles, but concerns remain over damage from falling debris of intercepts

Jordan shoots down notion Hamas leadership could live in exile there. The arab countries actually detest Hamas and the Palestinian population writ large.

Quote:

Jordan, however after its air force joined in the defense of Israel during Iran's unprecedented direct attack on the Jewish State said that's not an option. And it's not the first time rejecting Hamas attempts to move their "political" (read: terrorist) operation to Jordan after the Kingdom banned Hamas in 1999
Jordanian diplomat Ziad Majali reminded that "Hamas behaves as if there's no state and no authority in Jordan that will decide and determine how to act and how to conduct itself" and made it clear that "Jordan has closed the book on Palestinian cells and we do not intend to reopen it."

"Any government that provides safe harbor or support to Hamas should face maximum consequences," noted Richard Goldberg, a senior advisor at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD). "Jordan rightly rejected Qatar's request to host Hamas in 2012, and it certainly doesn't want any part of this U.S.-designated terror organization today," he added.
Good. Will be interesting to see what happens here. I guess these ass hats finally realize they are about to be rolled over.

Israeli Media is reporting that Hamas will announce in the coming hours their Approval of the Israeli Hostage Deal which will include a 6-Week Ceasefire and the released of Hundreds of Palestinian Terrorists from Prison, in Exchange for the release of 33 Hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. These Negotiations are claimed to have also seen Hamas now Agreeing to Drop their Demand for a Permanent Ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, in Exchange for U.S. Guarantees that the Israel Defense Force will Fully Withdraw from the Gaza Strip at the End of the War.
Full text on the tweet. Hard to believe that Israel would let hamas off the hook and back into gaza, but maybe it depends on the definition of "End of the War". It's not over until the IDF says it's over, maybe? Or maybe hamas is lying out their ass like they've always done?

That is the kind of dumb agreement our stupid government would make from a position of strength. Hamas easily gets much more out of it. Our dirty fingers are definitely all over that. I may feel differently if, after getting the hostages back, Israel cranks up their aggression to wipe out Hamas.

Yes, I would Darth Vader that deal in a heartbeat if I'm Israel. Get the hostages, get them to safety, and then immediately resume annihilating Hamas. This is essentially what Bibi has said all along though which is why Hamas hasn't made a deal. So clearly we got our hands on this giving Hamas a window to either regroup or flee somehow.

After the shalom attack that killed 4 yesterday, it sounds like any deal is off. Hamas leadership back in Doha from Cairo.
Quote:

Gallant indicated that "at this stage, Hamas refuses the frameworks at hand" and "emphasized that military action is required, including in the area of Rafah, at the lack of an alternative," according to the Defense Ministry

"The State of Israel will not tolerate the ongoing presence of terrorist frameworks bordering its communities, and is committed to achieving the goals of the war - the destruction of Hamas as a military and governing authority, and the return of 132 hostages," Gallant said.
Good, game on. Also, LOL @ "civilian evacuation" from eastern Rafah. What an "escalation" indeed. Hamas must be eradicated.

Really, I would have thought they would have done that way back in early 1974 after getting sucker punched in the 1973 Yom Kippur war.

Better late than never. Best thing Israel can do is to stop listing to this idiotic government of ours.

Somebody needs to give the Israelis instructions on how to conduct a proper "genocide", or maybe that's just a term loosely tossed around by Hamas defenders…….

Hamas accepted ceasefire.

Why would Israel agree to a ceasefire?

They have to do all they can to get the hostages back or Israeli's won't support the war. Optics, pure optics.

ETA:
Quote:

'After Hamas agreed to the mediators' proposal for a ceasefire, the ball is now in the court of Israeli occupation, whether it will agree to the ceasefire agreement or obstruct it,' the official told AFP on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly about the negotiations.

The agreement, should it take effect, would be the first truce since a week-long pause in the fighting in November, and follows months of failed attempts at pausing the fighting to free hostages and allow more aid into Gaza.

There had been concerns that the ceasefire talks being held in Cairo had stalled after Hamas official Izzat al-Rashiq warned that any Israeli operation in Rafah would put the truce talks in jeopardy.

The city, on the southern edge of the Gaza Strip, has been the last sanctuary for around half of Gaza's 2.3 million residents, pushed south by Israel's seven-month-old assault.

Just hours before Hamas announced that they had accepted the agreement, Israel had ordered Palestinians to begin evacuating Rafah ahead of an Israeli military operation. Israel says Rafah is Hamas' last stronghold.

News of Hamas' announcement sent people in Rafah cheering in the streets.

In recent days, Egyptian and Hamas officials have said the cease-fire would take place in a series of stages in which Hamas would release hostages it is holding in exchange for Israeli troop pullbacks from Gaza.

It is not clear whether the deal will meet Hamas' key demand of bringing about an end to the war and complete Israeli withdrawal.

My thought is that Hamas has run out of options on places to run to, so they are trying to buy themselves some time. If Israel makes returning all (or even most) of the hostages as a condition of the cease-fire, then the war will be continued soon.
