Reminds me of the election of 2004. Had a very early business meeting for a joint trade association for our industry the morning after. When Kerry finally conceded that morning, everyone's cell phones went off at the same time as their employees called them. At the time, felt like another 9/11 was happening or something equally catastrophic. Relief when it was just about Kerry conceding.

Just to be clear. This won't be a text message. It will be an on screen message along with an alert. Like the amber alerts I disabled on my phone but this one can't be turned off

Sounds like the plot to a sci-fi movie. EAS system is hijacked and malware pushed to every cell phone in America at the same time. If you think it's not possible then see the reports surrounding the alleged capability of Pegasus.

What conceivable type of emergency would require the use of a presidential alert that goes out to the entire nation at the same time?

Typically an emergency alert would be a localized concept, like when they sent out a presidential alert on Maui and warned people of an imminent danger of wildfire.

What would be an example of an emergency (other than a nuclear mass conflagration event) that would require an alert to go out to every cell phone in America simultaneously?
