Watch to the end.

IMO that was a fast trigger. Very surprised he got off without any jail time. I would have probably given a couple of warnings...

As a public service message: If you have a child or friend that does this kind of crap, you may want to show them what could happen.

Wow, that was awesome. Good on this dude. How awful would you have to be to profit on harassing people for clout?

Aren't all malls sketchy at this point? I don't even recognize North Park in Dallas anymore.....

That being said, everyone should be practicing heighten situational awareness EVERYWHERE these days. He might have been able to avoid the whole situation if he spotted this idiot coming before it escalated.

Well, one result is youtube boy is likely to slow his roll on harassing people. That is good.

This needs to happen more often. Stop acting like an ******* and you won't get shot. The entitlement of those that think they can just do what they want in public is baffling and needs to be pushed back against 9mm at a time

The shooter was convicted of a 6th class felony: "Guilty of discharging a firearm within a building (Class 6 felony): not guilty of aggravated malicious wounding (Class 2 felony); and not guilty of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (unclassified felony)."

The entire press release from the Virginia state court:

Quote:

Jury Convicts Alan Colie of Discharging a Firearm Within an Occupied Building

On September 25, 2023, a jury trial began in the Commonwealth v. Alan Colie. After four days of testimony and jury deliberations, a Loudoun County jury returned its verdicts in the Commonwealth v. Alan Colie trial. The jury announced the following verdicts: Guilty of discharging a firearm within a building (Class 6 felony): not guilty of aggravated malicious wounding (Class 2 felony); and not guilty of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (unclassified felony). The case is scheduled for post-trial motions to be heard on October 19, 2023.

The Honorable Judge Matthew P. Snow presided over the trial. The judge will hear motions filed by the defense and determine if the jury's verdict will be upheld. If the verdict is upheld, Judge Snow will impose a sentence within the law, one to five years in prison, or up to 12 months in jail and/or a $2500.00 fine.

On April 2, 2023, the victim, a self-professed YouTube prankster, went to the Dulles Town Center mall to record interactions for his online prank videos. The victim approached Alan Colie, and shortly thereafter was shot in the stomach. Colie had a license to carry a concealed weapon. At trial, Colie asserted the shooting was done in self-defense.

Loudoun County Commonwealth's Attorney Buta Biberaj stated, "The investigation by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office indicated that the shooting was force that exceeded the threat to Colie. It is unfortunate that the interaction between the victim and Colie resulted in a tragic shooting. We are thankful that the victim did not die. We appreciate the time, dedication, and service of our jurors. They are the voices of our community, and their service is the most powerful way for them to participate in the judicial process. We are always grateful of the hard work of our law enforcement partners, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office and the Loudoun County Fire and Rescue, as well as the members of the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney for their diligence."

The Commonwealth's Attorney was represented by Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Pamela Jones, Assistant Commonwealth's Attorneys Eden Holmes and Khaliyah Waters, and the victim witness case manager and paralegals.

Like the guy in Japan harassing people on a train and an Aggie verbally put him in his place. That was posted here in the last year or so.

In this case shooter isn't playing with a full deck of cards, but I don't mind professional harassers getting f'd up either.

Edit to add x I couldn't hear what the guy was saying to the shooter so maybe his reaction wasn't "well that escalated quickly" but in silence it was quick.

Still happy to see YouTuber learn a lesson in civility.

I saw this yesterday and I think he got off on assault but got hit with 2-10 for discharging a weapon in a public place. The dude that got shot said he'd continue to make his ******ed content, so he got off easy

The libbie communist politicians of Virginia are super duper pissed the jury found him not guilty of shooting the moronic dbag… unfortunately the lib jury had to make some sort of statement by finding the poor door dash guy guilty of discharging the gun in an occupied dwelling.

Discharging the gun due to fearing for your safety should NOT be a felony in VA.

Hoping this gets appealed and the guilty charge gets quashed.

This was Dulles Town Center I think. It was brand new when we moved to Leesburg just up the road almost 25 years ago now.

Really weird. Spent a lot of time in that mall the first few years it was open.

Have no idea what it's like today. Haven't been even through that area in over a decade, But I bet like most malls around that age it doesn't feel as safe to hang out in as it did even ten years ago. But it's probably still held up a little better than most. But 25 years ago at peak AOL, that whole area of Sterling, Ashburn, Lansdowne, Leesburg was absolute boom town. Couldn't build stuff fast enough.

It was so beautiful out in that area back then. So much more conservative at that point than it is now as well. Pleasantly surprised he got off.

As I have stated several times recently, I remain at the point where all I care about is who, of their own free will, created the dysfunction. That would be the harasser, not the delivery guy just doing his job.

I would have acquitted him too.

So restraining a felon using protocol gets you convicted of murder, but this clown straight up shoots a guy in a no life threatening situation and gets off

I don't carry or know anything about guns, but to me that looks like a situation where you would brandish it instead of shoot. But for all I know, that could create a worse legal position for the person with the gun.

Tanner Cook's 'Classified Goons' channel has more than 50k subscribers, and is full of similar stunts of Cook pretending to vomit on Uber drivers and harassing shoppers in department stores.

People are getting tired of these desperate attempts for likes and views.
Cook is just a bully who messed with the wrong guy.

I wonder how many Uber drivers Cook messed with that were a head taller and 75 lbs heavier than him? My guess is zero.

Got no problem with this shooting. Have a big problem with a law against firing a gun in a building. If I use my gun to stop a mass shooter in a building, I'm going to jail. Just moronic.

One of the most important rules of gun safety is never point a gun at anything you don't intend to shoot. In other words, anyone having gone through a gun safety or concealed carry class knows that you don't "brandish" a gun unless you intend to use it

Came back for this response. My dad always taught me to never point a gun at someone unless I plan to shoot them, and if I am shooting someone, shoot to kill. God willing I'm never put in the position for that to be purely academic.

Reminds me of that idiot Kenosha DA in the Rittenhouse trial. I would have been apoplectic if I were sitting on the jury and that buffoon pulled that stunt.

This violates a cardinal rule of gun safety.

You should go take a gun safety class. Not your fault if you haven't been trained, but don't give your thoughts on how to use a tool you don't know how to use. Your advice is deadly. We should include gun safety in school curriculum.

Maybe "brandish" was too strong a word, but is there any middle ground between keeping the gun concealed and firing? Because to me that seems what was called for here. The YouTube prankster would have backed off once he realized the guy was armed.

No. There is no "middle ground". For your own sake, go take a gun safety class even if you have no intention of getting a gun. You'll learn how to handle one safely if you ever have to and you'll learn your responsibilities and rights when it comes to firearms. A concealed carry class would benefit you too. You'd never even have to handle a firearm if you didn't want to. For the record, it is foolish to let an assailant know you are armed. There are limited places you can keep it and the assailant is as likely to go for your gun than not. If you are in fear for your safety, pull the gun and end the threat. Otherwise, walk away.

The only "middle ground" is if the intended target does something (i.e. flee) in the moments between starting to draw and pulling the trigger to warrant not shooting. This isn't the movies. You don't pull a gun unless you intend to shoot.
