Imagine how much he would whine if he was actually in Texas instead of the peoples republic of Austin.

This is what really got me. Austin is screwed up in lots of ways, but good food and good live music ain't it.

He's right about the heat lol. I can pop the windows, and at night it's about 75F with 8-20% humidity in August (in the upper 50's at 9k' elevation where I like to camp); but I grew up in Texas, was just back there for a wedding, and the humidity has a familiar feel to it that both my wife & I miss; it let's us know we're back home & we certainly don't mind it at all.

The guy who wrote the article is an example of how comfort makes people soft/weak.

I was dropping my son off at Jr high this morning and all of a sudden I hear a horn honk a few cars back, and then a Porsche crossover zooms on the outside of the car line and zips/darts dangerously to the front of the line while chirping his brakes/tires.

It was the most extra dangerous and dewshy thing I have ever seen in the car line. Even when people are being inattentive morons they drive slow and safe when kids are present.

The license plate? Yep, California, and the dad was on his phone while in a school parking lot.

I got ahead of him leaving and then forced him to follow me at 19.5 miles an hour out of the school zone until I had to turn.

I hope to God he is some sort of trauma surgeon called to reattach a severed limb. otherwise there is zero excuse for that s.

I like how you're expected to change everything about you and where you live and how you were raised to satisfy the whims, desires and insecurities of one dewsh canoe like the **** head that wrote that piece....or a group of people for that matter.

It's the reason that we are where we are as a society....everybody has to cater to a group or person that feels like they are more important than everyone else.

Oh....and don't like Texas? That's fine. Then **** off back to where you came from.

Well, I moved my family to Austin from North Carolina and love it...

I read that article and my one thought was "what a whiny beta". Texas is hot....who knew"?!?!?
Austin deserves much of the grief it gets on this board, but it's still a great place. He clearly knew his stuff - I'm familiar with the Belterra propane situation but I did my homework and didn't buy a house there. It helps to check these things out.

Politics aside, California and Texas have very different people and lifestyles. My sister was raised in TX, but now lives in Cali and loves it. Good for her. However if you move from one to another and expect to find what you left you will be disappointed.

Ironically, the people he experienced in Austin were his kind of people, transplants. He just reviewed all the locust, like himself, that have infested that once great town.

Furthermore, he sold his 2,000 sqft home in San Diego and bought a 4,000 one in Austin. Then proceeds to complain about affordability, taxes, and cooling costs. And excessively large homes. I wonder what sort of lifestyle he could have afforded had he bought a 2,000 sqft home in Austin.

are these even REAL people who write this @#$@# ?

or just an AI click bot who knows how to get people wanting to drive traffic to a website?

I find it hard to believe there is actually a real human being in the USA who didn't realize that when you move to Texas it's hot and there are mosquitos.

35 will never get him back to his safe space in California and if this idiot didn't like Austin he'd hang himself in Oklahoma. I think you meant 10 or 40 which will get him back to him communist ****hole.

I love the "monoculture" comment.

I live in an Austin Suburb. My cul de sac has 11 homes. Of the 11 no one is from Austin originally and only 3 are from Texas. We have a Chinese family, 2 Indian families, a Mexican family, a family from Ohio and another from Pennsylvania, a Korean family, a Russian family, and an Italian family. Definitely "monoculture".

Texas is hot. All over. However it is the entire package why this state as a whole is good and successful for hard working people. Austin, is what it is. Some parts, big parts are not very good. It is not what people wanted to happened to Austin over the past 20 to 30 years. It horribly run by leftists democrats to the point that famous democrats from years ago that are birdied in the state cemetery are turning over in their graves.

So Mr. California go home if you do no like Austin or move some place else in the state for there are many good places to live in Texas.

Also, Austin is the California of Texas. That's why it sucks. It's stupid to make a, "10 things about Texas," lost when you've been to a single city in the second largest state in the country.

I moved to the Dallas area from Santa Cruz County, CA in the mid 90s. I was a born and bred Californian. He's right about the weather. But, hot summers or not, there was something about Texas that made me wish I had lived there my whole life. The military made me move out of Texas to the East Coast after I graduated from TAMU and my wife being from eastern NC made me stay here after I got out of the military, but I would jump at any opportunity to move back to Texas if it ever came up.
