That's insanity.
Reagan was a damn good president

The GOAT IMHO.... but he was done at 78.... not starting.

And he was in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's at the end of his presidency.

It is crazy that we put up with this. McConnell and Feinstein's team brush this stuff off with a "they are fine just tired". It's insane.

Your aunt may have had the ability to hold conversations and understand jokes and recall memories and all that, but the ability to sit at a desk for hours and plow through hundreds of pages of dense documents while taking detailed notes and synthesizing all of the new info into a coherent understanding usable for intelligent policy development probably left her a decade or two before.
you clearly didnt know my aunt

Hey maybe that's true. Maybe we could have told her "look artificial intelligence has broken through some barriers and is set to massively disrupt the economy in the next 5-10 years. We need you to read all these documents on what neural networks do and how they work, these reports on computing power forecasts and the death or survival of Moore's law, and these other reports on quantum computing and how it could invalidate the computing power forecasts you just rea. Then you'll need to sit through 7 hours of testimony from experts on the same material. and finally you'll need to take everything you learned and craft legislation that doesn't over regulate these amazing technologies out of existence, but that also helps our working populace as the economy transitions from one phase to a completely different one."

Maybe she was up to that task at 88 years old. But if she was, she was 1 in a thousand.

Trouble with "Term Limits" is that some very good people are eliminated from running again.
An outstanding example is Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa.
Cognitive testing for all! And Grassley will pass it!
Joe, Kamala, Diane F., Fetterman, and Mitch??? I have my doubts on some and would give 100-1 odds on others!

This made me laugh. The worst presidents are the ones that micromanage.

Classic example was JImmy Carter. Nice guy but terrible president.

A president is a CEO. Do you think CEO's understand half of the details of their business?

With Fetterman it's not just a cognitive test that is needed, he is missing DNA. I still can't believe he got elected. It's still incredible to me.

I've always considered PA a fairly benign state that was mostly normal compared to many. Yet here we are with them electing possibly the worst candidate of all time for any office. At least Biden started out speaking coherently.

I actually agree with you on micromanaging and the dangers of big government, but I was just using it as a random example. And yes, a good senator (or CEO), even a hands-off one, should constantly learn so that he/she understands as many of these emerging technologies and issues at a conceptual level as possible (don't need to know the nuts and bolts of machine learning, but should get the main ideas).

I used to think that too. But the Founders had way too much confidence in the electorate. We are largely a society of low information voters who choose their candidates based on feelz, gotcha tweets, and popularity. We need term limits to protect us from ourselves.
In what way would term limits reduce the problems of "low information voters who choose their candidates based on feelz, gotcha tweets, and popularity?"

Are you willing to term out Cruz and Cornyn especially considering Beto, Allred, or Gutierrez would likely win those seats?

Yes. Yes I am. Career Politician should not be a profession and avenue for wealth building.

When are we going to wake up and realize none of the politicos have our best interests in mind. Meanwhile the middle class is shrinking and home ownership will not be an option for our children. What a dumb argument. The Scalia->Gorsuch gap was... Unconventional, sure, but if the public had wanted to rap his knuckles and force him to hold hearings for a liberal SC judge, they could have elected a Democrat president (come on, he wasn't gonna do it forever). Instead, they were collectively so mad at his behavior that elected a republican.

As for Barrett, lol, literally any politician on the left or right would have done the same in his shoes. You're just pouting that your team got played by RGB's refusal to retire.

Wow. This is so incredibly sad. Dude is having a stroke right there. It's like the aging boxer with clear brain damage who keeps getting in the ring.

The Founding Fathers setup a great system but they clearly dropped the ball when it comes to term/age limits.
To be fair though, at the time, I'm sure they didn't expect politicians to stay in office (or even be alive) into their 80s.

It's not a stroke. It's a petit mal (absence) seizure.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/petit-mal-seizure/symptoms-causes/syc-20359683#:~:text=A%20person%20having%20an%20absence,t%20lead%20to%20physical%20injury.
Could have been a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) which is a short term stroke-like event without permanent deficits.

Also could have been a seizure as you said. The most common cause of a new onset seizure in an older adult is a brain tumor. Exact same scenario that ended ted kennedy's life.

Neither is good for him or for Americans. Could be something else entirely.

Wasn't trying to argue with you as you may very well might be right. I've never witnessed a TIA in person so I don't have any idea if one could look like that or not. Tossing out a differential diagnosis is just an old habit.

I have witnessed several seizures and they usually have a recovery period as well. They don't just "snap back" all that quickly, either.

This has happened twice now that we know of. Wouldn't be too surprising if they don't start happening more frequently and force a medical work-up to identify what's going on.

A president is elected for 4 years and it takes an act of congress, literally, to remove him. A CEO is typically a lot easier to remove and most of the time is not hired for a certain period of time.

I love Reagan but seeing as he had mental issues at the end of his stint, not the best person to compare to.

Yeah most companies aren't trying to higher a 78 year old CEO with obvious mental issues...but 81 million people thought he should be in charge of the most powerful company in the world.
