The rate is being reported this week. They are expecting the inflation rate to rise to 4.2%.

They are also saying Powell is most likely done with rate increases. So it seems they are content with where it's at.

This is bull***** You have to get a 4% raise just to stay even. We're all getting poorer!

Food and energy isn't included in that.

Every time I turn around I'm taking a 13-15% price increase on something. The 13% figure seems to be the agreed upon number for a lot of services.

I'll never understand that. If there are two day to day "commodities" that are pounding everyday Americans, here they are. It sure seems food prices are rising faster than their "4%", and energy prices snowball into everything.

I am not a Macro economist but seems excessive federal spending above and beyond tax revenues may be the issue or at minimum a contributing issue to inflation. Raising interest rates wouldn't seem to solve over spending.

Then again I am not an expert.

That's a BS number. If you pay attention at the grocery store you can notice products have doubled in many instances. Some will say it only went from $1 to $2 - but it all adds up. A 20 count case of Coke went up from $7 to $12. A lot of things under $5 went up 50% or more. That ain't 4.2%.

This is transitory.

Your leaders passed a bill last summer….a full year ago now….called the inflation reduction act.

You may think inflation is 4% because that's what your lying eyes are telling you. But it's not. It's been fixed.

Yep, this 4.2 number is BS. Some things I buy all of the time are almost twice what they were a couple years ago.

They strip out food and gas because those prices are more volatile than others month to month. On a monthly basis it's easier to tell what direction and how fast inflation is going if you pull out food and fuel. Still sucks for the consumer who has to listen to core inflation statistics like they should be excited about 4% inflation not counting food and gas.

PCE report. It was 4.1% last month, and the monthly inflation figure last year for July was -.1%. A 4.2% inflation rate on the PCE for July 2023 implies that they expect that prices did not rise in July 2023.

In order for the annualized rate to fall the month of the preceding year had to have a higher inflation rate than the current year. July had low inflation in 2022, August likewise had low inflation in 2022, no one should expect the annualized rate to fall until the September (released in October) and October (released in November) reports.

If the current trend of lower month over month inflation continues the annualized rate should fall into the 3's before the end of the year and should reach a level of normalcy by the beginning of next year.

Food and energy is included in the figure. It is only removed on the "core" rate. The 4.2% expectation is inclusive of food and energy.

I have to agree with you. My wife does most of our grocery shopping, but I also do some, mostly things only I eat, stuff trying to help with my cholesterol (and some stuff that hurts it). But it is basically the same stuff each time I go. I usually go on Sunday evening or Sunday night. I have noticed a huge increase in what I spend on my shopping.
