I hate to admit it, but I effed up early on in our marriage about a decade ago and put it on the rocks...decided to surprise my wife with the rescue pup that she wanted basically as a hail mary attempt to keep things from falling apart. I was never even much of a dog person. It was very tough for a little while but we both committed to putting in the work to make things better and have been happily married for a long time and now have a small family. Any time I find myself not giving our dog the attention she deserves, I remind myself what an angel she has been and it's a lot easier to get my tired ass up off the couch to take her for a walk, to the nearby lake etc. I am honestly not sure i have the wife and daughter I do now without our dog. I know I'll be a major wreck when the time comes, not just because I love her, but largely because of that aspect. MAN'S. BEST. FRIEND.
